Are we nearly there yet?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Blimey! I don't think my feet have touched the ground this week! Do you feel the same way? The build up to the end of any term is always very hectic but there's nothing quite like the Summer Term to help you realise what 'busy' truly means!

Anyway, enough of my rambling on, let's see what Year Five have been up to this week...

Wimbledon eat your heart out!

A superb sight it was this Friday afternoon with the best KS2 tennis players all attending the DASP tennis tournament. St Osmund's and St Mary's Pudd brought some exceptionally difficult players but ours battled on!

Huge congratulations to all the team for their hard efforts and for their sportsmanship with particular thanks to Noah and Evan for representing Year Five so successfully.

Miss Enever's Drawing

You have already been 'subjected' to Mrs Daniel's drawing (which really is improving!) so I thought it was Miss Enever's turn!

In case you were wondering, these are pictures that represent the events of 9th December in the book The Wreck of the Zanzibar by Michael Morpurgo. We had to try and summerise the chapter in six pictures which was rather tricky.

Worth a Mention Children

Oh dear.

Not all of the teachers wrote on the board this week.

Golden Time

Sadly, eleven Year Five children missed their Golden Time this week. Four (yes, four) children missed it this week as they were in Detention. Mmm, that's not good is it?

Can I be hopeful for next week? Please? 

Transfer Day

Just a quick reminder that this Thursday is our Transfer Day. I can't believe that it has already been a year since we met the majority of you for the first time!

The children will find out who their Year Six teacher will be during morning registration and will then spend the first two lessons with them. During Lesson Three, the children will meet and spend the hour with their new Maths teacher. In the afternoon it will be business as usual.

Your teacher will run through what will be happening during the day with you so don't panic!

As it will be a very busy day in the world of Year Five, we ask the children that once they are registered they do not come back into the Year Five corridor. I know that sounds mean but trust me, it's much easier if we don't see you again until Friday when we will look forward to hearing all about your day.

Credit Collection

As the end of term is approaching rather rapidly, please don't forget to get your credits signed. Unless they have been signed by the teacher who has awarded them to you (or equivalent) they they won't actually count so get collecting Year Five!

Celebration Assembly

The last Celebration Assembly of the year will be on Monday 18th July at 9.30am in the Drama Hall. We will be reviewing the fantastic year that we have had with a couple of surprises along the way!

We are Champions!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

It was another very busy week, wasn't it Year Five? There were many highlights this week but I do think that Sports Day was the pinnacle of the week.

However, there are lots of things to share with you so here we go...

Lifesaver

In 5AD this week, we had an act of heroism to celebrate!

Young Kit (on the left) was in the midst of a choking situation and thanks to the quick action of our hero (on the right), the choking ceased and all was well.

Thank you young man, we were so impressed with your quick thinking...

Year 5 DASP Citizens

Congratulations to Harvey and Eden who were voted to be the recipients of this year's Year Five DASP Citizenship Award.

What a fantastic achievement!

Sports Day

What a brilliant day! A huge well done and 'Thank You' to every single child that participated in Sports Day. I hope that you enjoyed the day and thank you for being so well behaved and demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship.

Well done to 5KD who were the overall winners of Year Five's Sports Day. I think Mr Duffy is still in shock!

Well done Shania, Georgia and Tyler from 5ER for being the overall Boccia winners! They were up against stiff competition from the rest of the school but they were victorious - brilliant!

Golden Time

This week, seven children missed their Golden Time. However, no-one missed their Golden Time for having received a detention this week!

What is the betting we can reduce this number for next week?

Worth a Mention children

I wasn't even vaguely surprised when I looked at this week's Worth a Mention Children board this week.

Every single one of you are a 'Worth a Mention Child' and quite rightly so.

I am very proud of you all.

Hello and welcome back to the Year 5 Blog!

Time marches on and here we are at the end of another super week in Year Five already Where did that week go?

I can never believe how busy we are as a year group - there is always something to report back on isn't there?

So, with out further ado, here are just a few of the things that we have got up to this week...

DASP Citizenship Nominees

This week we were asked to nominate a boy and a girl from each class for the DASP Citizenship Awards. 

This is the criteria for the award:

  

This rewards children for making a positive contribution to their school community. With clearly defined areas, based on children's opinions, they act as guidelines for behaviour and self respect. Each year, those that have been judged by their peers, as having made the greatest contribution receive the DASP Citizen award.

Sports Day

Just a quick reminder the whole school Sports Day is this Thursday 23rd June.

In Year Five we start the day with the Playground Games where all the children participate (long jump and high jump is usually carried out during this time as well) This is then followed by Tug of War (again, all children participate). Finally, we have an spectacular afternoon of track and field events.

Your child should know what event/s they will be taking part in during the afternoon so I hope that this provides you with a very rough guide to the day. A more detailed programme of the day is available on this link:

Logo Quiz

The Fundraising Committee, which is part of the school's Pupil Voice, are continuing to raise money in order to buy our PD children some equipment for the playground.

For just 50p, you can enter the fabulous Logo Competition and have a chance to win a £20 Amazon voucher.

These two lovely children are selling the quizzes every break time from Room 2 so please do support this excellent initiative and bring in your 50ps as soon as possible!

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to this week's Worth a Mention children! This week's range of reasons is particularly impressive as they range from pottery skills to sporting skills and then writing skills!

I am a very proud Head of Year - well done!

Golden Time

We seem to have unwittingly entered the 'silly season' as 4 (yes, 4) children missed their Golden Time as they were in Detention. Not something to jump up and down about. 

Eight children in total missed their Golden Time this week which is such a shame as it felt as though we were definitely heading in the right direction.

Let's really try and improve on this next week Year Five!
