Is there a doctor in the house?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I think last week was the lull before the storm as I have A LOT to share with you this week!
Shall I crack on?
 Oh, go on then...

Year Five Girl's Football Team

Commentary courtesy of Mr Dailey...

Our yr 5 footballers embarked on a tough challenge on Friday. It was The DASP Area 5 a side indoor football competition.
This was tough as most of the girls had never played indoor football before! Still the girls entered the competition searching for glory
Game after game saw DMS crashing into tackles and letting loose ferocious shots at goal! Goals were scored and saves were made while the carnage of ownership of the ball was being battled out for in the middle of the pitch!

In the end the DMS girls came 2nd. A superb result  considering the girls had never played indoors before!
Player of the DMS team must go to Summer Kilby, closely followed by Phoebe Whalley and Amelia O'Connell
The team performed as a unit and had the musketeers theory all evening "All for one and one for all".

Well done girls, what a fantastic achievement!

Good Grub Club

Here is the latest batch (geddit?!) of The Good Grub Club, run by Mrs Cook (!) on a Thursday after school. This week my nose led me to the Food Tech room and I was very impressed with what I discovered...

What yummy looking pizza! Did your pizzas taste as good as they looked (and smelt)? I would like to point out that I left the room empty handed and with an empty stomach.

Sentence Surgery

As you know, Year Five have been writing looking at and writing instructional texts. In 5GR, Nurse Lister and Doctor Ray came in with their Sentence Surgery and Writer's Clinic.

Nurse Lister ran the Writer's Clinic which was Minor Injuries orientated.

Doctor Ray ran the Sentence Surgery which was geared more towards your Accident and Emergency type of patient.

Hopefully, our medical assistance helped the children with their instructional texts - the proof will be in the marking!

5AD shocker

We are currently learning about Electricity so 5AD decided to recreate a circuit on the playground. They all turned into electrons and had to 'light' the bulb.

It looks as though you had a lot of fun!

A gentle reminder

Miss Enever has been a busy bee and has produced what you can see in the picture all ready for next week...

Just to remind you that our first fundraising event of the year, the Hot Chocolate Cafe, will be held this Thursday (29th January) by 5KD in Room 5 at break time.  Prices to be confirmed in school at the beginning of the week.

...and finally

Ms Seymour has now gone back into the First Schools to get to know our new recruits for September.

I would just like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to her for all her hard work - she really is a tremendous asset to Year Five and all the children are very lucky to have had her supporting them during their transition to Dorchester Middle School.

Don't panic though - she will be back for the British Museum trip in March.

So, after another action-packed week, I hope you have enjoyed seeing what Year Five have got up and tune in next week as I have got lots more up my sleeve!

Thank you for the comments, keep them coming as there are Citizenship Credits in it for you!

Have a good week everyone!

Mrs Ray

(who is currently gearing up to mark 5GR's Instructional Texts and is hoping that the Surgery cured a few of those dodgy sentences and spellings)
