Yummy Scrummy!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Now, before I go any further, I need to warn you now that this week's contribution to the blog is MEGA! Clear yourself some space in your diary as we need your full and undivided attention.

Comfy?
Ready?
Let's go!

Instructions to Thomas Hardye School Neil Gaiman Style

Oh my goodness me! HOW much fun have we had writing a set of instructions in the style of the fantasy writer Neil Gaiman?

5ER took it one step further (of course!) and took a visit up to Thomas Hardye's so that we could write instructions on how to get there from Dorchester Middle School.

I took loads of photographs to document the route so we wouldn't forget what we saw.

Here are a few of the things we spotted en route with the instructions that we produced...

Be silent past the room of whispers and discussion. The witches and wizards that dwell there have plans for you. If you enter, you may never return.

Do not be afraid of the winged demon that dwells on the sleeping slope. He can be vicious. The answer to his riddle is simply “a squared plus z cubed equals delicious pie”.

Walk confidently outside the Castle of Instruction, beware of what is behind you. You might discover a bundle of needy offspring. Don’t be afraid. Find refuge behind the poison ivy bush.

This was our final destination...

What would YOU write here? Any suggestions (in the style of Neil Gaiman) could easily get you a CREDIT! Leave a comment and if I approve (!) then a credit will be winging it's way to you!

Hot Chocolate Cafe

Our Fundraising Fortnight kicked off on Tuesday with 5KD's brilliant Hot Chocolate Cafe.

All hands on deck!
An incredible £70 was raised - well done and Thank You 5KD and all the children who supported them.

Cake Sale

As you brought in so many yummy cakes, we had to hold the cake sale over 2 break times!

5CW and 5PC you raised an amazing £145!
Wow, wow, wow!

Next week's Fundraising Activities

Don't forget that next week 5ER and 5AD will be running our Milkshake Bar in the Hall during Tuesday break time.

The final event will the Non Uniform Day on Thursday where, in return for £1, you can wear your home clothes for the day.

I will announce our final fundraising total here next week.

Have you been zapped?

This week has been 'Switch Off Week' where, as a school, we have been trying to reduce the amount of electricity that we use by 10%.

If any of our lights or electrical equipment were found to be 'on' then, unless there was a reason, we were 'zapped'.

I think we were all 'zapped' at one point. This resulted in many of us being in the dark for the rest of the week!

Tia in 5KD really took our 'Switch Off Week' to heart and produced this fabulous poster to make us more 'Eco aware'.

Fantastic!

Harry Potter Night

Thursday night was our Book Group's Harry Potter Celebration Night and we invited a few of the Year Five children along to help us celebrate.

We had a brilliant evening thanks to Mrs Scott, er, sorry, I meant Professor Mcgonagall, who really made it, quite literally, a magical evening.
Can anyone spot who came as Lunar Lovegood?

Celebration Assembly reminder

A final reminder that it is our third Celebration Assembly of the year this coming Monday. If your child is receiving a certificate then there should be  a label in their Home School Diary.

Please be at school as near to 1pm as possible and we will start the assembly at 1.10pm and it will last for approx 20 - 25 minutes.

See you then.

Worth a Mention Children

HUGE congratulations to his week's Worth a Mention children. It's so lovely to see your names on the board for such a variety of reasons.
Well done!

Afternoon of Sport

A huge 'well done' and thank you to all the Year Five children who were involved in Wednesday's sporting spectacular.

A special mention must go to the Year Five Girl's Football team and the Year Five Basketball team who played extremely well and were excellent ambassadors for our school.

Back in the day...

Poppy's Mum made an incredible discovery the other day, the Home School Dairy she owned when she was at Dorchester Middle School.

This is what the timetable looked like then:

When Poppy showed it to Mrs White, she was instantly transported back in time!

Which version do you prefer?!

Golden Time

Ten children missed their Golden Time this week which is double the amount from last week. One child missed their Golden Time due to receiving a detention.

No-one in 5ER missed their Golden Time this week - yeah!

Golden Time will be on Thursday next week.
Surely we can ALL receive Golden Time this time, can't we?

It's all in your hands Year Five, all in your hands!!

So, that's it for another week. I will look forward to seeing some of you at our Celebration Assembly on Monday.

Have a good week everyone and don't forget your money for the next installment of fundraising!

Mrs Ray

(who is really looking forward to going back to her Dairy Farming roots on Tuesday!)
