So many exciting things ahead!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

We have just completed another packed week so I've got lots to report to you.
Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I'll begin...

Sporting Success

Wednesday was a busy day for some of our Year Fives as they played St Mary's Middle School and St Osmund's Middle School after school.

Here is our fantastic Basketball Team...

Congratulations to our Year Five Girls' Netball Team who had fabulous results when they played the two other Middle Schools. They beat St Osmund's 2 - 1 and St Mary's 3 - 0.

Well done ladies, what a fantastic result!

Celebration Assembly

Just to give you advance notice that our next Celebration Assembly will be on Thursday 9th February at 10.15am in the Drama Hall. We had to change the times due to the new timetable so I hope that you will be able to join us.
Hopefully we are giving you enough notice so that you can come along.

British Museum Trip

Thank you  to everyone who has returned their permission slips and paid the first installment for this trip. If you haven't done this yet, please could you do so as soon as possible?

Now, last week I 'warned' you about fundraising didn't I?

Well, I am delighted to announce the dates and activities we have planned:

Monday 30th January - Hot Chocolate Cafe in Room 5
Week beginning 30th January (all week) Chocolate Cones
Monday 6th February - Cake Stall
Wednesday 8th February - Milkshakes and Cookies in the Hall

All the above will take place at break times.

Please support all of the activities as all of the money we raise will go towards reducing the cost of our British Museum Trip.

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to all of this week's chosen ten.

What another glorious range of reasons for being chosen by your teachers!
Well done to every single one of you for such a fabulous achievement.

Golden Time

This week just 9 children missed their Golden Time this week!
Congratulations to all of you who earned your Golden Time this week, you must be very proud of yourselves and quite rightly so!

Maths Sets

I have great news!
Due to our recent restructure, we have been able to create an additional Maths Set in Year Five. This will enable us to reduce the numbers in the present sets which is good news all round.
As a result of this, there will be a fair amount of movement between sets as this is also an opportunity to make sure that our children are in the appropriate group so we can really maximize the children's learning potential.
We are aiming to make the changes towards the end of next week and we will speak to the children who are moving beforehand.

How exciting!

Year Five Assembly

With the new changes to the school day, our Year Five Assemblies are now held on a Wednesday afternoon. This week I used the assembly as an opportunity to hand out a few certificates:

It was a joy and well done to everyone who received one.
Luke - we have not forgotten you - your time will come!

 Bright Sparks

We are cracking on with our Electricity with lightning speed (!) and 5ER learned all about Parallel Circuits on Friday.

It was so clever how you could build quite a substantial circuit yet if you removed one light bulb, the other two would still be lit.
Genius!

Enlighten me?

So, Miss Enever takes the majority of the pictures for the Blog and I think you will agree with me when I say they are rather fabulous.
This week she kindly emailed me most of the pictures that I have used in this post but there was one that stumped me.

I have managed to work out that this is from a Maths lesson and it's probably Mrs Daniel's group. Can anyone shed any light on this? Please?

Well, that 's it for another week. It was quite an epic wasn't it? Please don't forget to comment on the Blog, you know you'll make my day!

Have a good week everyone!

Mrs Ray

(who looking forward to another fun-packed week in Year Five!)
