So near yet so far...

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Now, is it true? I heard that in less than two weeks we break up for the Summer Holidays? Excuse me but where has the time gone? Before we know it, you'll be all grown up and heading to Thomas Hardye's! We're going to make the most of the time we have left with you all in Year Five starting by the first item of this week's Blog...

Cinema Trip

As you should hopefully know (!) Year Five are off to the cinema next Friday!
Apologies if it seems a bit 'last minute' but we have been waiting for confirmation from The Plaza and now we have it, it's full steam ahead!
If you have  Dorchester Middle School DBS clearance, we would be extremely grateful if you could come with us. It is vital that we have the required 1:10 ratio when walking the children to the cinema.
We would also be extremely grateful for a prompt return of the slips and money.
We will be leaving school shortly after registration and will be back before lunch time. We will confirm exact timings in a text at the beginning of next week.
How exciting!

Worth a Mention Children

Massive congratulations to all of this week's Worth a Mention Children!

All of 5PC? That's amazing! You must be working incredibly hard!
As for the rest of you, what fabulous reasons to be up on the Board.

Well done one and all!

Mrs Daniel RA?

So, according to Mrs Daniel, at the end of every Dorchester University session - her and Miss Still have a 'draw-off'. Below is Mrs Daniel's masterpiece of the school garden. It's rather good isn't it?

Well done Mrs Daniel - you are definitely working towards ARE!

The meeting of great minds

Once Transfer Day has been and gone, we get together with the First School Teachers to talk about you! Don't panic! It's a really important part of the transition process as we get to know more about you so that we are ready and raring to go in September.

It's always lovely to see our Year Four colleagues - what a lovely bunch!

It looks as though it's not coming home after all...

I'm not a huge football fan. No, sorry, that's not entirely true. Let's start again...
Although I am not a football fan (I fell asleep during the England vs Columbia game!) I still entered into the spirit of wearing red and white to school on Wednesday. It was nice to see others also entering into the spirit of it too!

Better luck next time?

Buddy Picnic

As mentioned in last week's Blog, the Year Five and Eight children will be getting together for our annual Buddy Picnic.
The children will be meeting next Thursday to plan who is bringing what.
We will be asking the children to try and include a few healthy foods in their picnics. I am even going to award a prize to the healthiest picnic as an incentive!
We are going to be asking the children NOT to bring in fizzy drinks or sweets (you try teaching thirty hyped-up, sugar-fueled 10 year olds!) but cake will be permitted along with the sharing of it with members of staff!

The Year Five DASP Citizens of the Year

On Monday, I had the pleasure and honour of attending this year's DASP Citizenship Awards at Thomas Hardye's. This year, our Year Five winners were James and Mary who had been unanimously agreed on by the Year Five Team.

These fabulous children are what the Citizenship Award is all about - congratulations to you both and thank you for making us so incredibly proud of you.

Dates for the Diary

Why is that schools never 'wind down' before the end of the school year? Year Five in particular seem to hurtle towards the end of the term and we wouldn't have it any other way!

So, here are a few dates for your diary:

Friday 20th July
Year Five Cinema Trip at The Plaza
Monday 23rd July
Year Five Celebration Assembly - 9.15am - 10.15am.
Tuesday 24th July
Buddy Picnic
Wednesday 25th July
End of term whole school assembly at Thomas Hardye.

Well, that's it for another week. I hope you all have a terrific week and that the sun continues to shine for you all.
See you next week...
