Rays of sunshine

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Before I start, I would like to wish all the Year Five Dads a very Happy Father's Day! I am not being Year Five-ist am I?

Anyway, this is the week that saw Year Five sitting our first ever GL Assessments which links with what the children did at the end of Year Four in their First Schools. The children have been fabulous and taken it all in their stride, well done Year Five.

Let's see what else we have been up to:

Rowan Cottage

On Wednesday, Mrs White and I took our ten Pupil Voice Representatives to Age Concern's Rowan Cottage, a day centre for the elderly residents of the town. Every year, we raise money for them as they are one of the specific charities supported by Year Five.

We were given a tour of Rowan Cottage and were told about all the services that they provide. We then met a few of the members of the Social Club which was the highlight of the day.

We have been asked to raise funds for art materials so, as a result of this, we will be holding a Non Uniform Day on Friday 7th July. We will also be holding a cake sale - more details to follow.

It was a really good morning and our Pupil Voice Representatives were fabulous - thank you, you were a real credit to our school.

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to this week's Worth a Mention Children (WAMs) who are up on the board for such a terrific range of reasons. Well done 5PC for representing us so positively at Safewise, that's so good to read.
Well done one and all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall.

So, there I was trying to explain how mirrors work when I had a sudden brain wave!
Danny is the ray of light and he is (not literally) hitting the mirror.

The mirror is my husband's London Marathon space blanket from many years ago. I always knew it worth hanging onto these things as you never know when you will need them!

Blossoming nicely

Meanwhile, back in 5AD, they are whizzing on with their Green Plants topic.

Isn't Mrs Daniel's drawing coming along nicely? I can actually tell what it is...!

Staying Safe

There is no doubt that what happened to Grenfell Tower in London was horrific and made our recent to Safewise even more important. We are thankful for and admire the work of the Emergency Services, in particular the Fire Service.

William brought in the Fireman's helmet that he possesses to show us what our fire brigade have to wear. It was jolly heavy but really well designed.

Who knows, one day William might become a fully qualified Fire Fighter. Watch this space...

Well, that's it for this week. I hope that you have a fabulous week and that the sun continues to shine, well, it is summer after all!

See you next week and don't forget to keep those comments coming. Amelie received 2 credits for her recent comment so it will definitely be worth your while!

Mrs Ray

(who still can't believe she met the Olympian Dame Katherine Grainger when she called in to see the Year Six Kwik Cricketers at Bryanston School on Friday!)
