Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!
This week has flown by hasn't it? I can't believe that we are already at half term!
We have had another busy week so I'll crack on and let you feast your eyes on this week's treats!
Celebration Assembly
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the third Celebration Assembly of the year. It was lovely to see so many children receiving certificates and recognition for their hard work.
It's worth mentioning (!) that our Worth a Mention children will be announced every two weeks. Names will go up on the board and a picture on the Blog. I will also call out the names in the next Celebration Assembly.
It was great to welcome Sally Boardman to our Celebration Assembly so we could say 'Thank You' to her for providing us with our gorgeous Christmas Decorations free of charge. She has already started to knit the batch for next year's fundraising!
Our next Celebration Assembly will be on Monday 23rd March and I have a feeling we will have a lot to share with you!
Milkshake Event
We were overwhelmed with the number of 'customers' that we had on Thursday!
We raised the grand total of £60 which is terrific, thank to everyone who supported our event and to our fabulous volunteers who kept their cool and sense of humour throughout that frenzied half an hour!
A huge thank you to Craig's Dairy for donating a very generous amount of milk - so kind and so appreciated!
Final Total for Fundraising
Hopefully, you would have received a letter on Friday to tell you that, as a year group, we have raised a staggering £614 which means we have been able to reduce the cost of the trip by £4.00 per child which is terrific!
Well done Year Five, what a fantastic result!
The final cost of the trip is now £18 and the balance is now due. Please complete and return the slips into school as soon as possible.
Thank you!
Milkshake and Hot Chocolate Event
5KD, 5GR and 5AD will hold a final 'stock clearance' event to enable you to purchase a milkshake, hot chocolate or both!
We will be doing this in the HALL during break time on the Monday we return to school.
Egyptian Day
As originally announced on the Blog on the 10th January, Year Five will be holding their inaugural Egyptian day on Monday 23rd February. There should be a label in everyone's Home School Diaries as well.
We will be off timetable for the day and hope that the children will enjoy the activities we have got planned.
Please be reassured that dressing up is purely optional!
If you are in 5GR or 5CW, please could you bring any felt tips that you may have at home? All will be revealed on the day!
Jasmine's Project
The words that every teacher dreads to hear are 'I did this in my old school'! However, Jasmine in 5GR very kindly brought in the very impressive project that she completed in her previous school.
5GR thoroughly enjoyed looking at all of Jasmine's hard work. She is very happy for the other classes to have a look at it as well.
Thank you Jasmine!
Activities Week
There is no doubt that Year Five are always busy, busy, busy! Not only do we have a visit to Streetwise planned for the end of April (more of that another time) but we have a fun packed week planned for Activities Week.
For the first time ever, Years Five and Six will be teaming up as a Key Stage. The theme of our Activities Week is 'Art' and we have the following planned for you:
A visit to the incredible Sandworld in Weymouth where we will create our own sand sculptures.
A trip to Poole pottery to create our very own works of art that we can also take home!
A visit to Tout Sculpture Park and the opportunity to create our very own sculptures out of Portland Stone working with sculptors at the Portland Sculpture and Quarry Trust.
The deposits for this week are now overdue so we would be very grateful if they could be paid as soon possible.
Thank you.
Castle Attack
'Robin Hood, Robin Hood marching through the glen. Robin Hood, Robin Hood with his merry men...'
I give you that 'ear worm' free of charge!
This week, through the medium of drama, 5GR acted out a crucial scene from the story 'Castle Attack'.
This is the moment where they had to 'freeze'!
Brilliant!
Forest Schools
I found a rather lost and boilersuit clad Lukas on Friday. He was looking for the rest of his Forest Schools group who hadn't managed to locate.
However, the smell of smoke and the lure of marshmallows enabled us to find them very quickly!
It may have been cold but the welcome was a very warm one. You looked as though you were having lots of fun!
Well, that's it for another week. I won't be posting a Blog next week unless you want to see the pictures of my trip to St Ives and my pre-trip visit to the British Museum? No? I don't blame you!
I hope you all have a good week off, goodness knows you have certainly earned it!
See you back here in a couple of weeks!
Mrs Ray
(who is trying to work out what on earth to wear on Egyptian Day!)
