Glorious!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

As I am writing this post, I cannot help but notice there is a shiny yellow thing in the sky. I have been reliably informed that this is called 'the sun' and it tends to only come out on special occasions i.e. when we come back to school after a glorious Easter break. Yes, I know the second week's weather was gorgeous but the sun does tend to shine when the children go back to school doesn't it?

Anyway, enough of me wittering on about the weather! I hope you all had a lovely break and that you had lots of fun. It was great to welcome the children back on Monday, I can't believe that they have entered their last term in Year Five already - how time flies!

So, lots to share with you this week so on with the show...

Speed Sharing

Well, Mr Chadwick had to stock up on sweets after last term's successful Speed Sharing so that 5CW and 5KD were justly rewarded for all their hard work and fantastic writing.
Here are a few photographs to mark the occasion!

Mr Chadwick was, again, extremely impressed with the children's work. In fact, he loves Speed Sharing so much that he has now rolled this out for the rest of the school. Brilliant!

5CW's Adverts

In Year Five, we have been delving into the wonderful world of persuasive writing! 5CW had a great time looking closely at the features of advertisements as you can see by the photographs below...

I have a sneaky feeling that they have got the hang of that, don't you? (Rhetorical question?!)

5GR's Temperature Investigation

Whilst 5CW were in the throes of their Advertising Executive training, 5GR were predicting and measuring the temperature of a variety of rooms around the school. I have to say that their predictions were pretty spot on!

Danny Champion of the World

On Tuesday night, Book Group finally went on an outing! We have been searching for a decent one to go to for years so were delighted when we discovered that a stage version of Roald Dahl's much loved classic, 'Danny Champion of the World' was on at The Lighthouse in Poole.

We felt very rebellious about going out on a school night but it really was worth it! As you can see from the picture below, the children had their picture taken with the cast at the end of the production.

We brought along two honorary members of Book Group - do you know who they are?!

Activities Week

It's not long now until one of the most exciting weeks of the year, Activities Week!

The balance of £30 was due on the 20th March but there are several payments that are still outstanding. There are also a lot of the children in the year group who have not handed in the initial permission slips let alone the £5 deposit!

The total cost of the week is £35. At the risk of sounding like the Prophetess of Doom, if we do not receive sufficient funds then certain trips may have to be cancelled which would be such a shame!

If you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Oliphant, who is our Activities Week Co-ordinator, as soon as possible.

If you have kindly volunteered to accompany us on any of the trips then please be assured that we will be in touch next week.

Streetwise

On Wednesday, 5AD were the first class to visit the Streetwise Safety Centre in Bournemouth. Mrs Daniel was extremely proud of how well behaved her class were - they were a real credit to our school.
Well done 5AD, I hope the rest of us can live up to the high standard that you have set!

Well, that's it for another week. I hope you have a good week and I'll look forward to sharing further exploits from our fabulous Year Five children.

(Who would really like to see a few more comments on the blog - you have all gone rather quiet lately!)
