Half Way!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

We may have only been in school for four days but what busy days they were - we had something on every day this week didn't we? You can never accuse Year Five of resting on their laurels!

I have tried to put the events of the week in some sort of chronological order so get yourselves nice and comfy and launch yourself into another wonderful and eventful week...

Cake Sale

Cake! I love cake!
My goodness me, what yummy cakes you make Year Five!
An extremely generous amount of cake made it's way through the Year Five doors on Monday. So much cake in fact that we had to run the sale again the next day!

Thank you to everyone who made, brought in, purchased and ate cake. If you eat it for a good cause, cake doesn't actually possess any calories, right?

Your beautiful cakes made over £100.
Fantastic!

5CW's Teaching Skills

In our PSHCEE Lessons, the children in Year Five have been planning and teaching each other new skills.

It was so lovely to see the children patiently explain, model and coach each other so that they can learn a new skill. Some of the children were out of their comfort zone (Robin and hair plaiting instantly comes to mind!)but everybody gave it a go.
It was a joy to observe!

Milkshakes and Cookies

On Wednesday, it was mine and Mrs Daniel's turn to add to the fundraising pot. We organised a Milkshake and Cookie event in the Hall that was really well attended by all of the school.

Mrs Daniel and I made around 120 milkshakes in total - not bad for 15 minutes work eh?

Thank you to everyone who supported our event - we made over £61 in the end.
Fabulous!

5ER's Teaching Skills

On Wednesday it was 5ER's turn to plan and teach a new skill to a member of their class.

It looked like you had fun - what sort of skills did you teach each other?

Year 5 Football

On Wednesday (blimey, it was a very busy day wasn't it?!) our Year Five footballers worked their usual magic on the football pitch.

Words by Mr Roberts:

DMS v Sunninghill
DMS Team 1 WON 5-2
DMS Team 2 WON 6-2
A superb performance from our youngest p
upils was enjoyed this afternoon.
The celebratory cheers of success resonated across the playing fields as pupils tacked and attacked at will.
All players were true ambassadors for DMS, Star Performers were Tyler and Alex.
.

I am so proud of you boys - what a cracking result!

Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Tournament

Not only did our Year Five children have a huge amount of success on the football pitch, they also excelled on the rugby field.

Again, words by Mr Roberts:

CHAMPIONS !!
Our DMS rugby players played with ambition yesterday against the best of SW Dorset.
Pupils offloaded seamlessly and left the opposition grasping in their wake.
DMS were imperious,Played 7 games,WON 7 games,it was a majestic performance-bringing their try count beyond most schools` dreams.
It was a compelling performance, DMS are now through to the School Games Finals.
Outstanding work from the team-well done!

Wow!

Celebration Assembly

I am so sorry that I was unable to be with you on Thursday for our Celebration Assembly. There's nothing like a sickness bug to ruin all your best laid plans!

A HUGE 'Thank You' to the Year Five Team for stepping into the breach and for the 76 of you who attended.

It is just lovely to see all the stripes that were awarded to the children over the course of the assembly. This is incredibly impressive as we have had such a relatively short half term.

I am really looking forward to seeing the stripes on your sweatshirts after half term. I'll try and get some pictures for the Blog.

Well done one and all!

Total Fundraising Amount...

I am delighted to tell you (if you didn't already know) that we raised a total amount of £530 that will now discount the price of our British Museum Trip on the 24th March. Absolutely outstanding Year Five - well done!

A HUGE thank you to every single person who contributed, however big or small that contribution may have been. You are an incredibly generous and supportive year group. Brilliant.

Well, that's it for another week. No Blog next weekend, unless you want to see pictures of my half term? Not the most exciting of events I can assure you!

I hope you all have a super and very well deserved week off. There is no homework over the holiday but it would be brilliant if you could keep up the reading. You are doing really well with your 5 reads a week so it would be fabulous if you could keep it going...

Mrs Ray

(who is planning a trip to That London with Mrs Daniel next week so that we can double-check that The British Museum is still standing!)
