Ahoy there!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Another busy and, quite frankly, exhausting week! You are all officially amazing! Why? Find out below...

Walk to School Week

So, how many of you actually walked to school this week then? Sometimes it's really tricky to participate in these initiatives, especially when you live out in the sticks! I grew up on a farm so if I had to walk to school then I would have had to set off at the crack of dawn!

In our PSHCEE lesson this week, 5CW and I walked a mile around the school grounds.

To prove to you that we did indeed walk a mile, here is the evidence:

Don't you just love technology? It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, thank you 5CW!

RNLI to the rescue!

This year, Alice and Edward, who are Lifeguards in Weymouth, came to DMS to talk about how to keep safe on the beach this summer. Before their arrival though, the children completed a homework based on the impending visit.

We entered into the spirit of the day by wearing our wellies...

... and boy (or should that be 'buoy?!) we really did fill that welly, it was full to the top.

Thank you Mr Heaton for the loan of your welly - it was a perfect fit and extremely heavy!

The talk that Alice and Edward gave us was informative and fun. We learnt so much!

Brilliant!
We are yet to hear how much we raised but judging by the weight of the welly your generosity is in no doubt - thank you so much!

Socks!

As the weather is getting warmer, finally, I have been asked to remind you that the uniform requirements stay the same therefore no trainer socks please!
Grey/black/navy or white knee high/ankle socks are the official uniform.
Thank you!

Kate Kelly

On Thursday, we welcomed Kate Kelly, author of Red Rock, into our school. After an assembly with Key Stage Two, she dropped in on Book Group and we had a lovely hour with her.

It was lovely to meet a local author and I have a sneaky feeling that she was quite an inspiration to a few of our children.

Working together

I popped into Mrs Daniel's Maths Group on Friday as I had heard that it's a rather productive day for them.

There was such a lovely buzz in the room as the children marked homework with their Homework Buddy, feeding back to each other and discussing what went wrong if they had an incorrect answer.
I loved it and will Magpie it with my Maths Group!

Celebration Assembly

I hope you all received the message that we have a Celebration Assembly on Wednesday the 24th May at 2.30pm in the Drama Hall.
Apologies for the relatively short notice but we couldn't see a half term go by without celebrating the children's successes!
It will short and sweet, just like this half of the term!

Worth a Mention Children

As always, HUGE congratulations to this week's WAMs. I spied that the RNLI Homework generated a few mentions which is terrific.

Well done one and all!

Well, that's it for this week. That was another Mrs Ray epic wasn't it? I'm sure you're used to them by now?

Have a good weekend and if you are at Kingston Mauward on Sunday morning, please do cheer Miss Clements and I who will be dragging around my 'anti-running' nine year old daughter Elsie around the Race for Life. It was her idea, promise!

Super Citizens!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I love showing off Year Five, I really do, so it was an absolute joy to meet so many of our new recruits for September this Saturday. Watching our Year Five children show around the next 'batch' was a joy to watch and made me realize how far our children have come since they joined us a mere eight months ago. Year Five is a very special year group and although we may have our ups and downs, I couldn't be prouder of every single one of you.

Now that I have ceased my 'gush-a-thon' let's see what has been happening this week...

Eddie

This week, Mrs Cook and I had a lovely email from Mr Roberts about this young man:

This is what it said:

Myself and Mr Palmer wish to convey our utter delight in teaching Eddie and coaching him at after school clubs. He is an outstanding role model, helpful, positive and regards others as people he can help. At tennis club yesterday,he worked with others who needed additional help and did so in a selfless manner.
He is an outstanding young man and we wished for you to know this.

Well done Eddie and Thank You for being such an excellent ambassador for our Year Group.

Walk to School

This week you will need to make sure you have your trainers in school because it's Walk to School Week! Even if it is impossible for you to walk to school every day (it's a jolly long walk from Cerne Abbas!) we will be using the school grounds to represent the whole concept. Confused? All will make sense in your PSHCEE lessons, promise!

Wellies Heaven

As will know by now, we have the RNLI visiting school on Wednesday 17th May. Your homework this weekend reflects this visit and we are really looking forward to welcoming the Lifeguards into our school.

Please remember to wear you wellies (if you have some) to school and yes, you can wear them in school all day if you wish (!) and bring any loose change so we can try and fill a wellie or two to donate to the RNLI.

Open Morning

As mentioned at the beginning of the blog, we opened the doors to Dorchester Middle School on Saturday morning so our new cohort could have a look around the school with their families. We were inundated with Year Five helpers who were absolute stars.

It was so lovely to meet so many of the children who will be joining us in September.

We will be seeing the current Year Four children again on Thursday 6th July for our DASP Transfer Day and quite frankly, we can't wait to see you all again!

What a great morning!

Worth a Mention Children

Many congratulations to this week's Worth a Mention Children

Well done one and all! There will be more about Amelia's achievement in next week's Blog.

Cakes for Calais

On Friday morning, we held a Cake Sale in the Food Tech Room to raise money for Calais Action, a DASP supported charity that I wrote about in last week's Blog.

Well, it was an absolute triumph! We sold every single cake and made a whopping £117.65 in the process. I have been in touch with Mrs Stoker and she is pretty sure that this has taken her to fundraising to £2500 which is incredible!

It was very, very busy!

As always, our Year Five Pupil Voice Representatives joined their fellow Reps and were incredibly helpful.

Thank you to everyone who donated and purchased cakes - I was so touched by everyone's kindness. Sob!

Well, that's it for another week.
I hope everyone has a good week, it's going to be very 'footwear orientated' isn't it?

Thank you for the comments on the Blog - keep them coming and I'll keep dishing out the Citizenship Credits!

(who, along with her daughter Elsie and Miss Clements are taking part in the Kingston Mauward Race for Life next Sunday - might see you there?)
