It's a long way to That London isn't it?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I hope you all had a fabulous Easter break although it probably seems like a distant memory now.
Well, what a week back! We certainly how to come back whilst hitting the floor running don't we? Lots to tell you about so let's crack on...

ACM Gospel Choir at Weymouth

Only the bravest of teachers would take a group of children out on a trip on the first day back and Mrs Hammonds was that teacher! She took a large group of DMS children to Weymouth to rehearse with the incredible ACM Gospel Choir. There was a performance in the evening and I bet it was fantastic!
Mrs Hammonds would like to thank all the children who took part, especially our fabulous Year Five children who were an absolute credit to our school. So, Erin, Naomi, Louise, Emma, Seren, Laura, Eloise, Eden, Euan and Josh - thank you for being your usual terrific selves.

I have very exciting news for you!

The children are: Grace, Freya J,  Bea, Beth, Euan, Freddie, Ry and Oisin.
In the words of Mr Roberts, 'Well done and bravo!'.

British Museum Trip Part One

To say that we had a brilliant time at The British Museum on Thursday would be the understatement of the year!
The children were a credit to us all and we were so proud of every single child. Thank you Year Five for behaving so beautifully and representing our school so positively.

No doubt you have been told all about the day but here are a few pictures courtesy of Mrs Lister and Miss Enever of the day...

We have many more photographs to show you so I will post them next week.

Thank you to EVERYONE for such an incredibly successful trip.
To the parents for getting the children to school for 6am and making sure they were all prepared for the day. Sorry for the delay at the end of the day but you were all so lovely about it.
To the amazing teachers for planning and co-ordinating such a fantastic day.
To our terrific Teaching Assistants for supporting the staff and children with such positivity and enthusiasm despite such an early start.
To Mrs Oliphant, Mrs Shutts, Mrs Trowbridge and Miss Wood for helping organise and completing the admin for the trip.
To our brilliant parent helpers who were simply fabulous - we couldn't run such ambitious trips with out you.

The Follow-Up Work

I was so impressed with the attendance the next day and despite feeling rather weary, the year group was buzzing following our trip to London. I spied some extremely impressive work going on in a few of the classes...

5PC were planning to write a recount of their day using a 'snake' to represent the timeline.

5KD were being very adventurous and were planning their recounts and were caught writing on the tables!

The children in 5CW chose their favourite object from the Museum (a tough choice I would have imagined) and were researching them so they could write about them.

5ER planned their recount on a very long piece of paper, everyone contributing their thoughts and memories of the day.

I can't wait to see the results!

Worth a Mention Children

This goes without saying.
Well done Year Five!

Golden Time

Just a quick reminder that in order to receive Golden Time, the number of reads to an adult we are expecting you to complete by the cut off date have increased to two. This can include the weekend.

I am very impressed that so many of you achieved that this week - well done!

Forest Schools

Forest Schools in Year Five continues and Miss Enever and her trusty camera was there to help support Miss Still this week.

It looks as though you had a great time.
Have you managed to get rid of the smell of 'bonfire' yet?!

School Open Morning

This Saturday (23rd April) we will be throwing open the doors of the school open to welcome our new recruits!
If you are able to help as a guide between 9.45am and 12pm then please let your teacher know who will inform the office so that a letter can be distributed to parents/carers.

Celebration Assembly

Just to let you know that our next Celebration Assembly will be on Monday 16th May, starting at 1.10pm.

So, that's it for another week.
I hope that the children haven't been too grumpy following our London trip and that they all had good lie-ins over the weekend.

If anyone would like to share their experiences of the British Museum, please do write about them in the comments section of the Blog. Citizenship credits will be awarded to those who contribute.

Have a good week everyone and I'll see you back here next week for more news.

Mrs Ray

(who has had to have a few 'power naps' over the weekend!)
