Spooky!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog.

I hope that you have all had a great half term and that you have recharged your batteries so that you are ready and raring to go for your return on Tuesday 4th November.

I can't believe that our 'new' Year Five recruits have already completed a half term - I suppose it goes to show that time really does fly when you are enjoying yourself?!

Let's have a look at what we got up to last week...

Nice to meet you, to meet you nice!

It was lovely to see so many parents attend our recent Parent Consultation Evenings. We hope that you found it informative and that you have a good picture as to how your child has settled in to their new school.
Our next round of Parent Consultations will be early next year and will be based on academic progress. I will give you more details nearer the time.

The Great DMS Bake Off

I was incredibly impressed with the amazingly high standard of cake decorating in Year Five! Here are the Year Five entries and I think you will agree with me when I say that I did not envy the judge's task!

Congratulations to Freya for winning First Prize in the Year Five category.

I must also mention Katie and Oliver who won second and third prize. What amazing cakes!

Celebration Assembly

A huge thank you to all 101 of you who attended our first Celebration Assembly of the year - it really was a case of 'standing room only' wasn't it?

It was so lovely to see so many children receive certificates after their relatively short time at the school. Please don't worry if your child was not presented with a certificate this time, our next Celebration Assembly will be on Monday 15th December, same time, same place.

Here are a few pictures of the assembly for you to either reminisce over or to see what it was like...

First Schools Visit

As you know, a few weeks ago the whole of Year Five invaded two of our feeder First Schools to read our 'Excuses' stories to the younger children.

Here are a selection of the photographs that were taken at Prince of Wales...

We hope to repeat the experience some time soon but with the First School children coming to us to share their favourite stories. Can't wait!

Science Day

Science Day 2013 039

Next Monday (10th November), Year Five will be off timetable in order to participate in the Year Group’s Science Day. Each Year Five teacher will be providing the children with an activity based on an investigative area within the realms of Science.
We will also look forward to welcoming back the Explorer Dome group who will be delighting the children with their intriguing ‘Kitchen Chemistry’ show.
Mrs White has been working very hard to make sure that you have a great day. We hope that you are looking forward to it too!

Helping Hands

So, how are you getting on with this?
Have you managed to raise lots of money by helping around at home?
Once we have received the money from this and the recent Non Uniform Day then we will announce how much we have raised for Save the Children's Ebola Campaign.

Well, that's it for another week!
We look forward to welcoming you back into school on Tuesday so enjoy the extra day off!
Mrs Ray
(who is bracing herself for the Trick or Treaters who will be knocking on her door any time soon!)
