Happy New Year Everyone!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I would like to start this week's post by wishing you all an extremely Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed the well deserved two week break. Christmas is such a busy time though isn't it? Personally, I think I've come back to school for the rest!

Anyway, let's crack on with this week's news...

Instructions

So, how good are you at following instructions? Are you one of those people who read a recipe all the way through first or do you follow it as you go? Well, this week we have started to look at the features and layout of instructional texts which has been fun and enlightening, all at the same time!

In 5GR we had a go at making a Pop Up Card following two sets of instructions.
The first set of instructions were quite vague and tricky to follow...

The second set had pictures and a bit more information. Needless to say, more children were able to produce something that resembled a Pop Up Card on the second attempt!

However, there were three members of the class who successfully produced Pop Up Cards on both attempts - well done Harriet, Leo and Katie!

Whilst we were admiring the fruits of our labour and photographing the results, we had an unexpected visitor! Who was that photobomber?!!

British Museum Trip - 5th March 2015

Thank you to everyone who has returned slips and the deposit as requested. If you have not had the chance to do this yet, we would be very grateful if you could do this as soon as possible as the deadline was Friday. There is no need to pay the balance in full yet as we do not know what the final cost will be at this stage.
If you have been having problems accessing the online payment facility then please contact the office who will do their best to help you.

As mentioned in previous blogs, we will be holding a series of fundraising events to help discount the cost of this trip. We have kick-started the proceedings with the sale of the Little People Christmas Decorations, but that was just the start!

Over the next few weeks we will be raising money by running the following events:
  • A Non Uniform Day
  • A delicious Cake Stall
  • A Milkshake and Cookie Bar
  • The Hot Chocolate Cafe

Dates are just being finalised and I will put them on next week's Blog.

Egyptian Day

We are proud to announce that Year Five's first every Egyptian Day will be held on Monday 23rd February! Logistically, it will be very similar to the Science Day that we ran in November where each teacher will be running a workshop. This time however, the workshops will be based on different aspects of Life in Ancient Egypt.
I warn you now, the children will have the opportunity to dress like an Ancient Egyptian for the day!

So, that's it for another week. I hope that the return to school/work wasn't too much of a shock! Well done everyone for such a positive return to school - we have such an exciting term ahead of us.

Have a good week everyone!
