The aftermath...

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I really did think that this week would be so much calmer after our epic London trip but I was so wrong! So much has been going on in our Year Group this week, I don't actually know where to start (just for a change) but I'll give it my best shot!

British Museum Trip

We are still recovering from last week's trip to the British Museum but the follow up work so far has been tremendous! The children learnt so much from our day and are still buzzing about the wonderful artefacts that they saw.
Miss Enever and Mrs Gaffney have very kindly sent me their photographs of the day so, without further a do, feast your eyes on more fun and learning from the 5th March...

Nash Cup

Congratulations to the three Year Five girls who took part and subsequently won the coveted Nash Cup for Girl's Football. According to their coach,Miss Bacon, it was a terrific match and their victory was certainly well deserved.

Well done Summer, Tegen-Lee and Amelia - we are very proud of you!

Play Trail

As you may well know, there is a very welcome addition to the playground at Dorchester Middle School and that is the Play Trail equipment. 5KD thoroughly enjoyed playing on it the other day as you can see in the pictures below.

A big 'Thank You' to the PTA for raising the funds for such fabulous play equipment!

Science Fun

In Science, we have now finished our topic on Electricity and have now embarked on learning about Materials and their Properties. 5GR decided to go out and about the school this week to find interesting objects around the school. They had to work out what the object was made out of and why that particular material was used.

From this little 'walkabout' we have started to work out what a property actually is and how it can relate to what specific things are made out of.

As I was heading down the Year Five corridor, I spied this sight...

Mrs White and Kai (the owner of the bike) were looking at the materials made to make his bike and discussing the properties of these materials. Rumour has it that Mrs White had a go on Kai's bike - is that true 5CW?!

Cool Dude

I love the sunshine, don't you?
The problem is, I love it so much that I won't let the children close the blinds in my classroom! I can hear the tutting from here.
However, there is a simple solution: provide sunglasses!

You see, it's a win, win!
I wonder if this will be adopted by other teachers with sunny rooms?

Miss Wood

For those of you who don't know, this is Miss Wood who is our Year Five Administrative Support.

It's always helpful to put a face to the name isn't it?

Year Five Footballers

A huge congratulations to our Year Five boys who played a cracking game of football this Wednesday.

Words have been provided by Mr Roberts:

A combined team of Year 5 and 6 played a highly competitive game of football today with DMS claiming victory.

DMS steeled themselves for a Dorchester drama against rivals Sunninghill but the truth was a little one sided.

Sam Thwaites was brilliant between the posts, contriving extraordinary reflex saves to dampen the prep school thunder.

DMS took an early hold on the game, courtesy of two goal hero Taylor Hearn. There were no defensive frailties with Johnathon Shaw,Lewis Berry and Harry Owen at the back.
The second half found DMS brimming with energy and they bombarded the Sunninghill goal, further celebrations continued with goals from Owen Peart and Taylor.
It was the captain ,Taylor, who had the final whistle,a happy tune of won 4-2.

A fine display of skill, character and modesty, epitomised all that is good about DMS sport.
