As one door opens and all that!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Well, what another busy week! It was absolutely bonkers but we have all survived and are looking forward to the next chapter of the wonderful world of Dorchester Middle School.

As always, so much to report so here we go!

Dorset County Cricket Finals

Year 5 Cricket Team
Wednesday 6th July 2016

On a particularly summery day and within a traditionally bucolic Wimborne Cricket Club-our youngest pupils played to their potential.
Brilliantly captained by wicket keeper Ry G ,DMS were superb ambassadors for the school and West Dorset
8th in the County of Dorset is a fine result.

What an amazing achievement - well done boys - we are extremely proud of you. What a fantastic team you are!

Jumping Georgia

We have another Year Five showy-offy moment in the bag. The lovely Georgia B in 5ER has only gone and become the DORSET Year Five High Jump Champion. Yes, that's right, the DORSET Champion! How amazing is that? Well done Georgia, you are an absolute super star and we are all delighted for you and your fantastic achievement.

Gargoyles

You have shown us time and time again what a creative bunch of children you are so imagine how I impressed I was when I spotted your gargoyles being taken home this week. I managed to catch a couple of you before you took your fantastic creations home.

I think you'll agree with me, they are incredible even if I was being a bit cheeky when I said they were the spitting image of their creators!

Transfer Day

Transfer Day is always a day of nerves and excitement for everyone, children and teachers alike. We hope you had a fabulous morning with your new Year Six teacher and that you are looking forward to the exciting challenges and opportunities that Year Six will provide you under the leadership of the lovely Mr Murray.

To confirm the classes for next year:
5ER are moving to 6KM (Mrs Klein and Mr Murray)
5CW are moving to 6NR (Miss Randall)
5KD are moving to 6TH (Mr Haigh)
5AD are moving to 6JB (Miss Bacon)
5PC are moving to 6JW (Mrs James and Miss Ward)

We had a lovely day with the Year 4 children and I hope you welcomed the children who maybe your friends, acquaintances or brothers and sisters.

Teaching Buddies

Mrs James came in and did a bit of compulsory 'daughter embarrassing' - an absolute must when your child comes up to middle school!
A lot of hard work goes into the whole transfer process. I had a lovely time visiting the feeder First Schools with some of you, thank you so much for being such terrific ambassadors for Year Five.

Kate, Ry and Noah enjoy seeing Mrs Burson at Winterbourne Valley First School again.
We also brought along Miss Deardon, our Executive Head so she could meet some of the children.

At the end of Transfer Day, you may well remember that we hold an evening for the parents of the current Year Four children? My personal highlight of the evening is the modelling of the uniform.

Here are my amazing models...

They were such naturals!
Paris, Milan and London - watch out!

Worth a Mention Children

Last week, we named and shamed the lovely Mr Duffy didn't we? Well, here is the completed board!

Well done to all these children for being such shining stars in Year Five.

Here are this week's Worth a Mention Children:

What a fabulous range of reasons. Well done to all of you, my pride will never, ever fade when I see your names up on the board...

Golden Time

Well, only four children missed their Golden Time this week which is pretty impressive Year Five! Were you in a class where all of you received your Golden Time? If so, please do brag about it in the Comments section!

Now, next Friday is our last Golden Time of the term.
You know what's coming don't you?
Can EVERYONE get their Golden Time?
Please?

Celebration Assembly

Don't forget that the last Celebration Assembly of the year will be on Monday 18th July @ 9.30am in the Hall
The assembly should last roughly an hour (maybe less) and we will be reviewing the incredible year that we have had.
Teas and coffees will be available.
We look forward to seeing you then!

Buddy Picnic

If Monday 18th July wasn't busy enough, we will be holding a Buddy Picnic with our Year Eight children during Lesson 3.

The Buddies are going to meet up this Thursday so they can plan their picnics so everyone knows what they are bringing on the day. If you have booked a hot lunch for your child do not despair, the fantastic Food Links ladies provide a fabulous picnic-style lunch for those children.

At the risk of sounding like party-poopers, we ask that the children do not bring in sweets, chocolate and fizzy drinks. We will reinforce this when we meet.

Well, that's it for another week. We have another busy week ahead of us so make sure you get lots of sleep so that you have lots of super energy!

Have a good week everyone!

Mrs Ray

(who is having the earliest bedtimes ever - Year Five, you are officially exhausting!!!)
