Back on track?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Well, that week whizzed by didn't it? The children are really getting to grips with their new timetable (better than the adults in some instances) and embracing the changes. It feels a bit like the beginning of the academic year but at least we know the children this time round!

Anyway, enough of my customary rambling, let's see what the children in Year Five have been up this week...

Year Five Girl's Football

On Monday, a group of brave yet determined young ladies set off to Puddletown Middle School to play a cracking game of football.

Words by Mr Dailey:

Our girls ventured up to Puddletown last night (Monday) to play in a friendly indoor football fixture against St Mary's .

The girls were all thrilled to be battling it out at indoor football and had some impressive plays that saw the crowd gasp with excitement and applause  

In the end the girls lost 4 - 1 to St Mary's but they won the hearts of the crowd.

Well done and thank you girls for all your hard work and perseverance - we are so proud of you!

British Museum Here We Come...

Hopefully, you would have received the first letter about our very exciting trip to the British Museum on Friday 24th March. We will be starting our new topic on Ancient Egypt shortly and this trip will really bring the whole subject to life for the children. If you did not receive a letter then please let your child's Homebase Tutor know as soon as possible so we can reissue you with one.

We have asked for permission slips and payment of the deposit by two weeks time and we would be very grateful if you could adhere to this first deadline. If you are paying online (Agora) a permission slip will still need to completed and handed in as this is a separate document.

As stated in the letter, we will be embarking on several fundraising activities over the next few weeks so brace yourselves for requests of money - sorry! I will let you know what is coming up and when in the next Blog post. 

How exciting!

Penguin-tastic!

In our English lessons we are learning about Non Chronological Reports through the medium of the Emperor Penguin.

If you haven't met him before, this is Pete, 5ER's resident Emperor Penguin. He is a very lazy penguin and spends most of the day in my cupboard, sleeping! 

This week, Pete got to meet the children in 5ER.

Unfortunately (and rather embarrassingly) he decided to attack Alfie. I think he was jealous of Alfie's rather lovely handwriting but who can tell?!

Over in 5AD, Mrs Daniel was let loose on her whiteboard and demonstrated her 'unique' drawing style.

I'm so pleased that Mrs Daniel made it clear what she had actually drawn as I wasn't 100% sure but don't tell her I said that!

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to the first Worth a Mention Children of 2017!

Another impressive set of reasons why you have been chosen by your teachers this week - you lot never cease to impress me.

Golden Time



I am delighted to announce that only 10 children missed their Golden Time this week and there were no Detentions for anyone in Year Five!

Queen Seymour

We are certainly making the most of having Ms Seymour with us as it is not long now before she goes back to the First Schools to get to know the Year 4 children who will be transferring to us in September,

This week, we made her wear a crown.

It suits her doesn't it?

A change is as good as a rest?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I just want to start this post by wishing you all an extremely Happy New Year! It was lovely to welcome the children back to school and to hear all about their Christmas Holidays. I don't know about you, but I always find the Christmas Holiday very busy indeed so there is part of me that comes back to school for the rest!

As we have been back for the grand total of three days there isn't a huge amount to report this week but you know me, I can always find something to talk about!

All Change!

Well, the New Year brought us a new timetable and I have been very impressed with how well the children have coped with all the changes so far. I do appreciate that it is going to take a bit of getting used to but everyone was very positive with the change of lesson times. We were all pleasantly surprised with how quickly the days went, particularly when we only had one lesson after lunch!

The one thing I would strongly recommend is that all the children have a sizable snack with them for our 11am break as it will be two hours before lunchtime. I personally have stocked up on enough bananas to feed most of Monkey World for next week!

Golden Time

When looking at the Reading Records for 5ER, I was very impressed with how many children read during the school holidays. Well done to every child who has kept their reading going over the break.

We are back to normal next week so the children should be getting their Home/School Diaries signed for last week and before Christmas, completing their five reads and making sure that the homework that is set this week is handed in on time. I'm not even going to mention the 'D' word!

Golden Time will now be held last thing on a Friday afternoon (3.05pm - 3.25pm) which will be a lovely end to the week.

Uniform Expectations

When we gave the children their new time tables on Wednesday, we looked at the Uniform section in the Home/School Diary to make sure that everyone is wearing the correct uniform.

Just a quick reminder that boots and trainers are not uniform and will be queried if worn in school. If you are in the process of replacing school shoes, please make sure that there is a note in the Home/School Diary to let us know why school shoes are not being worn.
