Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!
I hope you all had a super half term and that you really did have the opportunity to recharge your batteries! That week flew by didn't it?
Yet again, we hit the ground running and we are well and truly into our final half term of the academic year (sob!).
So, without further a do, let's have a look at what our brilliant children got up to this week...
Year Five Sport
Well Year Five, you have a rather delighted Mr Roberts on your hands. There were two major sporting events this week and the children who represented our school really did do us proud!
The following words are by Mr Roberts:
SW
DORSET KWIK CRICKET TOURNAMENT
Wednesday
8th June 2016
Year
5 Cricket Team
It
is with measured delight that I can announce the outstanding cricket team of SW
Dorset.
Pupils
played with customary zeal and traditional DMS modesty, pupils were undefeated
after 6 fiercely contested matches-they remained imperious to the end.
DMS
played 6 and WON 6 taking 45 wickets in the process
Friday 10th June
Year 5 (and 6) Athletics Team
It is rewarding to speak in such high praise about our
younger pupils but today was one of them.
Our DMS pupils were immense, they competed with ardent
intent within all their athletic disciplines-they were superb!
12 schools from across the district jumped, ran and threw
with much effort.
All pupils were credible athletes and notable success was
achieved by:
2nd Tom H Year 5 Boys 75m
2nd Sam M Year 5 Boys Cricket Ball Throw
2nd Georgia B Year 5 Girls High Jump
3rd Freya J Year 5 Girls High Jump
Well done Year Five - what amazing results! Sports Day on the 23rd June is going to be a very exciting event to be part of!
Mind the Gap!
This year has been the year of firsts and this week was no exception!
On Friday, Lesson 3, we mixed things up a bit and held our first ever 'Mind the Gap' lesson which will be a series of six lessons between now and the end of term.
The aim of these lessons is to, quite literally, plug any gaps that the children may have in their knowledge of grammar so that they are ready and raring to go when they start Year Six.
The Year Group was buzzing after the session! A huge thank you to the Teachers and Teaching Assistants who were instrumental in making our first lesson such a roaring success.
Can't wait until next Friday...
5ER Damp Proof Course Investigation
Some of us are coming to the end of our Materials Topic (a couple of classes have already zoomed onto the Light topic!) and one of the investigations the children have to carry out is to work out which material would make the best damp proof course.
The children worked together in their Science Groups and I was really impressed with how cooperative they were when trying to work out the answer to the target question.
So, which material was the best damp proof course?
Answers in the Comments section please!
Worth a Mention Children
Well done to this week's Worth a Mention Children.
Another super range of achievements from our super duper youngsters.
Fab-u-lous!
Golden Time
This week, just five children missed their Golden Time.
Sadly, one was for Detention.
Well done to all of those children who received their Golden Time this week, keep up the good work.
So, that's it for another week. We have a week of assessments ahead of us which is a terrific opportunity to show off all the super things that you have been learning about this year. We like a bit of showing off don't we Year Five?
Have a good week everyone and I shall look forward to seeing you back here next week.
Mrs Ray
(who is gearing herself up for the ultimate markathon next week!)
