Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!
Well, we have been working hard on our learning this week and cracking on with life in Year Five!
Let's see what this week had to offer...
Life Education Van
All of the Year Five children enjoyed a session in the Life Education Van on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
What did you think of it? Did you learn anything new? Were you given good advice that you will remember? If you want to answer any of these questions then please do feel free to do so in the 'Comments' section - it'll be great to have your feedback!
Football
Our Year Five Footballers were out and about again this week - this time it was a match against Chickerell Primary School where the result was 2 - 2.
Words by Mr Roberts:
It was a traditional match of end to end attack and defence that faced our youngsters.
Freddie B was everywhere and Harvey L a Trojan.
Captain Tyler was immense, effortlessly winning the ball back and ghost through would be tacklers.
Well done boys.
Radipole on Monday
Well done Alfie H, Liam, Tyler L, Jack,. Harvey, Freddie B, Freddie Br, Tyler V, Max, Luke and Harry.
We are so proud of you!
Worth a Mention Children
As always, huge congratulations to the ten lucky children who were selected by their teachers to be this week's Worth a Mention children.
A super selection of reasons for this week's children.
Well done!
Golden Time
This is how we all feel when children in Year Five lose their Golden Time!
Everyone is working hard to make sure this happens but we are still having issues with Homework and getting all five reads completed in a week.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - we are more than happy to help the children in school with their reading and homework, the children just need to let us know (but not on Friday morning!).
Parent Consultations
Although there was quite a short turnaround time, we have made lots of appointments to meet with many of you next Monday and Thursday. We are looking forward to meeting with you and discussing how the children have settled in to their new school.
Some of the teachers still have a few available appointments both evenings so it is still worth sending in the slip, just in case.
Celebration Assembly
Our first Celebration Assembly of the year will be held on Thursday 20th October at 1.10pm. We ask that you are in school around 1pm, making sure that you sign in on your arrival. The assembly usually lasts for about 25 minutes and will focus on what the children have achieved in such a short time.
We look forward to seeing you then.
Reading Journals
We are currently looking at how to use Reading Journals in Year Five so we can independently respond to the books that we have either read or are in the process of reading.
The book we are using to help us with this is called 'Way Home'.
It's a great book that has sparked a lot of questioning and debate.
Freddie has particularly enjoyed using 'The Q Matrix' to help him develop and enhance his questioning skills. We are experimenting with this in 5ER and are looking forward to sharing it with everyone soon.
Helping Hands
Mrs White came to talk to the children about Year Five raising money for Save the Children's appeal for Syrian children. Hopefully, you received the 'Helping Hands' letter where we have asked the children to do chores around the house in order to raise money for this charity.
Being helpful at home will help raise money for this very worthy cause.
Get cleaning!
So, that's it for another week. We are looking forward to meeting with you at next week's Parent Consultation Evenings.
Have a good week everyone!
