Keep calm and carry on!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I don't know about you but this is has felt like the week that is the calm before the storm! We have such an incredibly frantic week next week so I have been enjoying a bit of 'normality' - whatever that is!

Well, it may have been a 'normal' week but I still have a lot to share with you...

Year Five DASP Citizens of the Year

Huge congratulations to Eddie and Holly for being voted Year Five DASP Citizens of the Year.

We had a lot of amazing children to choose from in Year Five but ultimately, there could only be two winners. Holly and Eddie were presented with their awards at a special evening on Tuesday at Thomas Hardye.

Well done you two, we are so, so proud of you!

Flowerologists

Huge thanks to the members of 5AD who came to 5ER's rescue when we attempted to make model flowers this week!

Thank you for saving the day - you really did make a difference. Please come and have a look at what we have produced and let us know what you think!

Knitted together

Last week, Ellie came to see me with the cutest little creature I have seen.

Ellie produced this is Mrs Pluck's Knitting Club and it really is a thing of beauty. Ellie, you must have worked so hard to produce this - well done!

Ice One Amelie!

Amelie has been keeping a secret from her class!Yes, that's right, a secret!
She only went and won the recent Local Food Links competition and won her class an ice lolly each!

We kept the class in at break time without telling them what was happening. As you can imagine, there was some light whingeing but the moment Amelie arrived with her winnings, the moans turned into cheers.

Thank you so much for sharing the delicious ice lollies with us - you are a star!

DASP Literacy Festival

A huge thank you to the five Year Five children who took part in the DASP Literacy Festival last week.
Here are a few of the children who attended:

When chatting to Seren, it sounds as though they had a fantastic time meeting new people and rubbing shoulders with real life authors.

Thank you for being such excellent ambassadors for our school.

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to this week's WAMs. Such an impressive range of reasons this week - well done.

Next week

It's a busy one so here we go...

Year Five Cinema Trip - Monday 17th July
We will be leaving school after registration and should be back in school around 12.30pm. If for whatever reason you are not coming on the trip then you will be in Year 6 for the morning.
If you have signed up for the Popcorn/Sweets/Drink combo for £2.50 then please don't forget your money!

Buddy Picnic - Wednesday 19th July
The children will be planning their picnics on Monday. We have been unable to do it this week as the majority of Year Eights have been in France. Huge apologies in advance if you do your shop at the weekend but this was the earliest time we could meet.
The picnic is on Wednesday during Lesson 4. If your child has a hot school lunch booked do not worry, they will still be able to have it after the picnic.

Celebration Assembly - Thursday 20th July
We are aiming to start at 9.30am but will start letting you in from 9.10am. The assembly will be in the Drama Hall and will last for roughly an hour. We have got some fabulous things planned for you and there are LOADS of stripes to be presented.
Can't wait to see you!

End of term - Friday 21st July
We will be off timetable and finish at the usual time. At the end of the day, we will be saying 'Goodbye' to the Year Eights on the playground - it's going to be emotional!

So, that's it for another week. Be prepared for a very long Blog next week - you may want to do it in installments!

Have a good weekend and I will look forward to seeing some of you at the Celebration Assembly.

Bring me sunshine

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Well, here I am on Sunday and I have just about (and only just) recovered from the busiest week known to man! It's been terrific, it really has, but my goodness me, I bet the children were shattered when it came to Friday!

Lots to report so here we go...

Summer Concert

On Monday and Tuesday, the Music Department threw open the doors and invited parents and carers to our annual summer concerts. I had the honour of attending the Tuesday night performance and to say that it was a brilliant evening would be the understatement of the year!

There were a lot of Year Five musicians on the stage and there were fantastic! The confidence and talent that you showed us was incredible - I am so proud of you!

Sports Day

Mr Roberts, postponing Sports Day last week was a good call - what a glorious day that was!
I was so impressed (again!) with the Year Five children for their effort, positive attitudes and super behaviour. It was a long but excellent day.

Here are a few of the zillions of photographs that Miss Enever and I took between us. Enjoy!

Huge congratulations to 5AD who were the winners of the Year Group - what a brilliant result! Now, we all know how incredibly non-competitive Mrs Daniel is (snigger!) so it was a good job that you were the champions!

Transfer Day

I hope you all enjoyed Transfer Day on Thursday and feel a little less nervous about joining Year Six now that you have spent a morning in the year group.

We had a great day meeting the new Year Four children and there were lots of smiley faces at the end of the day (phew!).

In the evening we met with the parents and a few of the Year Five children were selected to model our uniform and sports kit. They were brilliant!

Thank you to my models - Paris beckons!

Cinema Trip

As you should all know by now - Year Five are off to the cinema to see Despicable Me Three on Monday 17th July. Please make sure that slips and money are returned as soon as possible.
Thank you!

Worth a Mention Children

There was no doubt in any of our minds that this week ALL the children in the Year Group were Worth a Mention!

What a fabulous board!
Well done everyone - you really do deserve it!

Dates for the Diary

Buddy Picnic - Wednesday 19th July
(details to follow, the children will be planning it this week)

Celebration Assembly - Thursday 20th July at 9.30am

End of term - Friday 21st July - normal finish time.

So, that it's for another week! I am hoping that next week will be a little less hectic but who can tell?
Have a lovely week and I'll see you back here next weekend for the penultimate blog of the year.

Any comments this week? Go on, you know you want to!
