Better late than never!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Many apologies for the 'lateness' of this week's blog but it has been a rather busy weekend as you will see at the end of the Blog.
We sadly said 'Cheerio' at the beginning of the week to the amazing Ms Seymour but never fear, she will be at our Celebration Assembly on Thursday.

So, without further a do, here is the latest from Year Five...

Fundraising

Oh. My. Word.
You are an incredible lot, you really are.
Our fundraising has been simply fabulous this year! I cannot begin to thank every single person who has contributed in some shape of form.
We have just 3 (yes, 3) Bookmarks to sell on Monday (1 x Minion and 2 x Elmos) and then we can total what we have raised.
I will announce it at this week's Celebration Assembly.
Eek!

Speed Sharing

This has been an absolute joy and virtually all of the year group, with the exception of half of 5KD have had the opportunity to share their wonderful writing.

5MW were lucky enough to have Ms Pluck to share their writing with.

To say that she was impressed would be the understatement of the year!

Celebration Assembly

Don't forget that we will be hosting our next Celebration Assembly this Thursday at 2.05pm
If you can come, please remember to sign in before you are shown to the Drama Hall by the children.
See you then!

Half Term

Even though  it has been a relatively short half term, I bet you are all looking forward to a break as we have worked you very hard this term.
You are the lucky ones who get an extra day as you break up on Thursday.

Big sigh!

DMS vs St Mary's Puddletown

Words by Mr Roberts:
Sport is the preserve of all pupils who are willing to contend with bitterly harsh weather and formidable opposition.
DMS pupils conducted themselves with grace and humility whilst maintaining the sporting defiance that makes them so locally revered.

Our Year Five Boys were part of this terrific event.
Well done boys!

Ancient Egypt Day

With half term fast approaching, I thought I would remind you about the Year Five Ancient Egypt Day on Friday 23rd February
Costumes are actively encouraged, especially as there will be prizes for the top Ancient Egyptian outfits!

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to this week's worthy Worth a Mention Children!
Can anyone work out what Mrs Daniel has drawn this week?
Answers on a postcard please...

Well, that's it for another week.
I hope you have a cracking week and I will look forward to seeing you back here next week where there will be A LOT of things to report back on.

Generous souls

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

This week has been incredibly busy but incredibly rewarding! I can't begin to thank everyone who supported our second fundraising week - every event has been very well stocked and attended. I think our final fundraising total is going to impressive...

Anyway, let's see what has been going on this week...

Hot Chocolate Cafe

The wonderful smell of chocolate wafted through the Year Five corridor and enticed a lot of customers into the Room 5 Hot Chocolate Cafe.

A HUGE Thank You to Mr Duffy and Miss Enever for organising such a successful event. We're not 100% sure of the final total but we are pretty sure it is around the £80 mark.
Wow!

Crafty Mrs Lister

Mrs Lister's amazing book marks and key rings have been selling like Hot Cakes and I've already seen the bookmarks being put to good use.

Now, there are a few items left for sale. They range from £1.50 to £3.50 and every item is unique.

This is all we have left:

We will be setting up shop again on Monday so don't miss out on being a proud owner of one of these wonderful handmade crafts.

Cakes Everywhere!

Oh my! What a generous bunch you are! I couldn't believe the mountain (yes, mountain) of cakes that were donated to our Cake Sale. We had so many that we had to set up another sale the next day.

We don't know how much we have raised as yet but as soon as I do, I will let you know on this Blog!

A massive thank you to the staff and children who helped with the selling and the eating of the cakes. You are complete and utter stars!

Granny May

We have been thoroughly enjoying The Wreck of the Zanzibar by Michael Morpurgo.
This week many of the classes have been writing a diary entry as the character Granny May.

In 5MW, we hot-seated her so we could ask her lots of questions about specific events on September 9th 1907.

Our Granny May was Ben and he was excellent!
Thank you for being such a terrific Granny May!

Worth a Mention Children

I was delighted to see this week's names on the best board in the school.
What has particularly impressed me about this week's selection is the huge range of reasons chosen by the Homebase Tutors.

Well done Troy, Megan, Jadan, Mollie, Caitlyn, Zak, Blu, Merlyn, Oliver and Lauren!

Celebration Assembly

Just a quick reminder about our Celebration Assembly on the 8th February - the day we break up for half term.
We are aiming to start at 2.05pm and are hoping to be finished by 2.25pm.
I hope to see you there.

Well, that's it for another week.
I hope you all have a cracking week and that I see you back here next week.
Please do feel free to leave a comment on the Blog, it is always lovely to receive and read them. I haven't had any of ages. I miss them!

Where do I start?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Another week in the bag and what a bonkers week it has been! I have just started 'Speed Sharing' with the Year Five children which involves the children choosing their favourite piece of writing so far this year and then explaining to me, in roughly one minute, why they have chosen it, what they have done well and what they need to work on. I saw all of 5AD on Tuesday and saw about a third of 5PC on Friday.
I am delighted to report that the children are making marvelous progress and producing some very impressive pieces of writing. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of 5PC next week and 5CW will have their turn on Thursday.
I am so excited!!

Anyway, there are other highlights from the week so here we go...

Milkshakes Are Go!

A HUGE 'Thank You' to everyone who supported the Milkshake and Cookie Bar on Tuesday by purchasing around 120 chocolate and strawberry milkshakes as well as my body weight in biscuits (i.e. lots)!

I also want to say a massive 'Thank You' to our fabulous helpers Isaac, Mary, Bailey and Mia who were just brilliant especially when I managed to knock a whole cup of strawberry milkshake all over the table!

Mrs Daniel and Miss Woodley were also complete and utter superstars - thank you ladies!

We raised a fabulous £60.18.
The money we have raised is starting to mount up and that's before the three events we have planned for next week!

Crafty Mrs Lister!

Mrs Lister is an incredibly talented lady! She has very kindly put these talents into use especially for us. She has made the most incredible key ring fobs and book marks.

Prices start from £1.50 up to £3.50 and we will be selling Mrs Lister's creations in the Year Five Corridor from Monday break time and will be on sale every break time until they are sold out.

You better be quick though, I can't see these beautiful creations hanging around for long!

Hot Chocolate Cafe

During Tuesday break time, Mr Duffy will be turning his classroom into a Hot Chocolate Cafe. For the bargain price of 50p the children will get a 'hot' chocolate and biscuit.

There will also be the opportunity to purchase a Hot Chocolate Cone made by the wonderful Miss Enever.

Don't miss out!

Cake, I LOVE Cake!

As if we weren't spoiling you enough!

Don't forget that we will also be having a Cake Sale in the Year Five Corridor during break time on THURSDAY. Thank you in advance for those kind souls who are bringing in cake and the the equally kind souls who will be purchasing and eating them!

Worth a Mention Children

Mahoosive congratulations to all of the fabulous children who found their names on this week's Worth a Mention board.
A special mention to Matthew who worked especially hard to get his Golden Time this week.

Congratulations!

Huge congratulations to Mr and Mrs Duffy on the birth of their daughter Holly who was born on New Year's Eve!

Isn't she gorgeous?

Well, that's it for this week. It was a bit of an epic wasn't it? Make sure that you log in again next week where we should have a final total for our fundraising efforts - how exciting!

Have a good week everyone and I will look forward to 'seeing' you back here next weekend.
