Generous souls

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

This week has been incredibly busy but incredibly rewarding! I can't begin to thank everyone who supported our second fundraising week - every event has been very well stocked and attended. I think our final fundraising total is going to impressive...

Anyway, let's see what has been going on this week...

Hot Chocolate Cafe

The wonderful smell of chocolate wafted through the Year Five corridor and enticed a lot of customers into the Room 5 Hot Chocolate Cafe.

A HUGE Thank You to Mr Duffy and Miss Enever for organising such a successful event. We're not 100% sure of the final total but we are pretty sure it is around the £80 mark.
Wow!

Crafty Mrs Lister

Mrs Lister's amazing book marks and key rings have been selling like Hot Cakes and I've already seen the bookmarks being put to good use.

Now, there are a few items left for sale. They range from £1.50 to £3.50 and every item is unique.

This is all we have left:

We will be setting up shop again on Monday so don't miss out on being a proud owner of one of these wonderful handmade crafts.

Cakes Everywhere!

Oh my! What a generous bunch you are! I couldn't believe the mountain (yes, mountain) of cakes that were donated to our Cake Sale. We had so many that we had to set up another sale the next day.

We don't know how much we have raised as yet but as soon as I do, I will let you know on this Blog!

A massive thank you to the staff and children who helped with the selling and the eating of the cakes. You are complete and utter stars!

Granny May

We have been thoroughly enjoying The Wreck of the Zanzibar by Michael Morpurgo.
This week many of the classes have been writing a diary entry as the character Granny May.

In 5MW, we hot-seated her so we could ask her lots of questions about specific events on September 9th 1907.

Our Granny May was Ben and he was excellent!
Thank you for being such a terrific Granny May!

Worth a Mention Children

I was delighted to see this week's names on the best board in the school.
What has particularly impressed me about this week's selection is the huge range of reasons chosen by the Homebase Tutors.

Well done Troy, Megan, Jadan, Mollie, Caitlyn, Zak, Blu, Merlyn, Oliver and Lauren!

Celebration Assembly

Just a quick reminder about our Celebration Assembly on the 8th February - the day we break up for half term.
We are aiming to start at 2.05pm and are hoping to be finished by 2.25pm.
I hope to see you there.

Well, that's it for another week.
I hope you all have a cracking week and that I see you back here next week.
Please do feel free to leave a comment on the Blog, it is always lovely to receive and read them. I haven't had any of ages. I miss them!

Where do I start?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Another week in the bag and what a bonkers week it has been! I have just started 'Speed Sharing' with the Year Five children which involves the children choosing their favourite piece of writing so far this year and then explaining to me, in roughly one minute, why they have chosen it, what they have done well and what they need to work on. I saw all of 5AD on Tuesday and saw about a third of 5PC on Friday.
I am delighted to report that the children are making marvelous progress and producing some very impressive pieces of writing. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of 5PC next week and 5CW will have their turn on Thursday.
I am so excited!!

Anyway, there are other highlights from the week so here we go...

Milkshakes Are Go!

A HUGE 'Thank You' to everyone who supported the Milkshake and Cookie Bar on Tuesday by purchasing around 120 chocolate and strawberry milkshakes as well as my body weight in biscuits (i.e. lots)!

I also want to say a massive 'Thank You' to our fabulous helpers Isaac, Mary, Bailey and Mia who were just brilliant especially when I managed to knock a whole cup of strawberry milkshake all over the table!

Mrs Daniel and Miss Woodley were also complete and utter superstars - thank you ladies!

We raised a fabulous £60.18.
The money we have raised is starting to mount up and that's before the three events we have planned for next week!

Crafty Mrs Lister!

Mrs Lister is an incredibly talented lady! She has very kindly put these talents into use especially for us. She has made the most incredible key ring fobs and book marks.

Prices start from £1.50 up to £3.50 and we will be selling Mrs Lister's creations in the Year Five Corridor from Monday break time and will be on sale every break time until they are sold out.

You better be quick though, I can't see these beautiful creations hanging around for long!

As if we weren't spoiling you enough!

Don't forget that we will also be having a Cake Sale in the Year Five Corridor during break time on THURSDAY. Thank you in advance for those kind souls who are bringing in cake and the the equally kind souls who will be purchasing and eating them!

Worth a Mention Children

Mahoosive congratulations to all of the fabulous children who found their names on this week's Worth a Mention board.
A special mention to Matthew who worked especially hard to get his Golden Time this week.

Congratulations!

Huge congratulations to Mr and Mrs Duffy on the birth of their daughter Holly who was born on New Year's Eve!

Isn't she gorgeous?

Well, that's it for this week. It was a bit of an epic wasn't it? Make sure that you log in again next week where we should have a final total for our fundraising efforts - how exciting!

Have a good week everyone and I will look forward to 'seeing' you back here next weekend.

Joy is all around us!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

What a terrific week! I don't know if I speak for everyone but I have had yet another fun teaching week! 5MW and I have had a ball in English and are about to face 5KD in a 'Storm Slam' (I will leave the children to explain that one to you!) in a few days.
We have had lots of lovely successes and I experienced my first Speed Sharing session with the super-talented 5AD. To see how much progress you have made in your writing in just one term is a joy to behold.

Why 5AD didn't learn anything this week...

Mrs Daniel's naughty cat Oscar has been at it again! He has been stopping Mrs Daniel from working by demanding frequent cuddles. A tough choice at the best of times I guess?

However, he has helped her plan her English, something to do with main and subordinate claws...?!?

Happy Harrison

Look at the beaming smile coming from this young man's face! This is a boy who has missed many a Golden Time but this week he has worked extra hard to earn it so we are all delighted for him!

Well done Harrison - keep up the good work - we are so proud of you and ALL of the children who work hard to earn their Golden Time!

Worth a Mention Children

As I am on the subject of children that we are proud of, feast your eyes on this week's Worth a mention Children...

Well done one and all - I am thrilled for you!

Viking Invasion

On Friday, Dorchester Middle School was invaded by Vikings! No, seriously, they were!
Well, if you don't believe me, here is my evidence...

As you can see from the pictures, they were on a recruitment drive and I think they were successful in their mission, don't you?
Thank you to Mrs Cook for organising these fearsome warriors to visit the Year Five children, I hope we didn't frighten them too much!

Marvellous Milkshakes

As previously mentioned, we will be starting our British Museum fund raising next week.
We will kick it off with our Milkshake and Cookie Stall that will be held in the Hall on Wednesday break time. For the bargain price of 50p, you will get a delicious milkshake and scrummy cookie.
What is there not to like?
See you there!

Celebration Assembly

Just to let you know that our next Celebration Assembly will be held on the last day of the half term, Thursday 8th February at 2.05pm in the Drama Hall

Well, that's it for another week!
I hope you are all in the process of having a fabulous weekend and I will look forward to seeing you back here next week!
