Scientists of the future

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Democracy Day

On Tuesday, Charlotte and Eddie were selected to represent Year Five at the Local Democracy Day held at Dorchester Town Council.

Miss Clements was incredibly proud of all the Pupil Voice children she took with her and had a fantastic day as a result. How about telling us a bit more about it in the comments section in this Blog?

Science Day

Wednesday saw the arrival of our greatly anticipated Science Day in Year Five. The children had a fabulous day and learnt a lot in the process.

This is what the children got up to...

A HUGE Thank You to Mrs White for organising such a terrific day.

Worth a Mention Children

Massive congratulations to this week's Worth a Mention children. I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of you.

This week's Terrific Ten have clearly impressed their teachers for a variety of reasons. Well done one and all!

If and when you have a spare moment (!) please do have a look. We will have our first meeting with the newly elected Pupil Voice Representatives soon so I will be posting a few photographs on the Blog.

Back in the fold.

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I hope you all had a great half term and that you all had the opportunity to recharge your batteries. As with all holidays, the week whizzed by didn't it? Mind you, so did the four days we were back in school!
Anyway, enough of my ramblings and on with the Blog.

Worth a Mention Children

Well done to this week's Worth a Mention Children (aka WAMS) who clearly made an excellent impression on their teachers over the past four days.

Another set of cracking reasons for being mentioned this week - absolutely brilliant! Congratulations to every single one of you!

Science Day

On Wednesday, Year Five are going to be off timetable in order to experience a whole day of glorious Science!

There will be a variety of activities for the children to experience. Here is a selection of some of the things we will have on offer...

I'm not going to tell you too much as I don't want to ruin any surprises but I am pretty confident that you will learn a lot and have lots of fun in the process.

Golden Time

Well, the numbers are starting to reduce (slowly but surely) which is good news but quite a few of you are still missing your Golden Time.

Reading and Homework continue to be the main reasons for Golden Time being missed. We offer to help every week but we need to be told! Please remember this, especially if you are getting to that point of the week when you know you need to get a couple more reads under your belt!

We are definitely getting there...

Helping Hands

A HUGE 'Thank You' to every single one of you who have kindly contributed to this fundraising campaign on the behalf of Save the Children.

Once we know how much we have raised, we will let you know...

Pupil Voice Representatives

Just before half term, all the Year Five classes voted for the children they would like to represent them on the Pupil Voice Committee.

Here are the Year Five Pupil Representatives for the next year.
Exciting times ahead!

So, that's it for another week. Tune in next week to find out how Science Day went and what we got up to do - we'll put lots of lovely pictures on the Blog for you to enjoy.

Have a good week!

... and breathe!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Another week has whizzed by and now we are about to embark on the first half term of the year! How did that happen? The children (and adults!) have had a lot to contend with over the last seven weeks so I think EVERYONE deserves the week off!

Celebration Assembly

It was absolutely brilliant to see so many of you at Thursday's Celebration Assembly - what a supportive bunch you are! It was so lovely to see so many of the children receive certificates at such at early stage of the school year - you must be working your metaphorical socks off!

Here are a few pictures of the assembly:

Thank you to Mr Murray for leading such a super assembly and for Mrs Hammonds for encouraging the children to show off their impressive singing skills - three part harmonies - who'd have thought?!

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to this week's Terrific Ten - I know I say it every week but it is such a joy to see your names up on the board.

Whilst I was taking the photgraph on Friday, look who 'accidently' steeped into the picture...

Mrs Daniel - what are you like?!!

Super Science Homework!

Our Year Five corridor is looking rather gorgeous, if you don't mind me saying! Our boards are covered with fantastic writing on the Wonderful Writing Walls and there are some rather impressive Science Homeworks popping up here and there...

We love your creativity - long may it continue!

Golden Time

Well, we still haven't quite cracked this getting Golden Time lark but I do feel we are heading in the right direction?
Reading and Homework are still the main areas that a few of the children are struggling with.

We will get there in the end, right?

Pupil Voice Representatives

Over the last few days the whole school have been busy voting for their Pupil Voice Representatives and this includes Year Five. Once I have all the names from all the Year Five classes then I will post a picture of or new recruits.

I am so proud of all the children who put themselves forward to be Pupil Voice Representatives and even if you were not voted, we recognise that it takes a lot of courage and self belief to do this. I'll get a picture of you too!

We have a very vibrant and active Pupil Voice Committee at Dorchester Middle School and we have been meeting since the start of the school year.

To see what the Pupil Voice gets up to, I have just created a Pupil Voice Blog (go me!) so you can see all the things they do. You can find it on:

Non Uniform Day

On Friday November 4th Year Five will be holding a non-uniform day to raise more funds for Save the Children's child refugee fund. Pupils can wear suitable home clothes in exchange for bringing a £1 donation to school.

Well, that's it for another week, in fact, another two weeks! Thank you for making the first half term of DMS so enjoyable. I must say a HUGE thank you to the Year Five Team for being so brilliant - you are the best!

Have a good half term everyone - enjoy your well-deserved week off and we will look forward to seeing you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on Tuesday 1st November.
