Walk like an Egyptian!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

So, I am going to warn you now, there are LOADS of pictures for you to look at! It's so hard to be selective when choosing pictures to be included on the Year Five Blog so I've done my best to include as many as possible.
We've had another terrific week in the year group so let's have a look and see the fun and games we got up to...

It's still there!

The good news is that the British Museum is still standing and it is as interesting and exciting as ever! We can't wait to take you there on the 24th March - even if we do all have to get up at the crack of dawn to get there!

Please remember to get your payments in as soon as you can to the deadline (10th March).

Super Schools

It was such an honour to welcome Grant Fielder, our Super Schools Champion, into our school on Wednesday.

Grant Fielder

Grant ‘Chopper’ Fielder is British to the core. A dirt jumping, slopestyling freerider, he’s been at the forefront of the UK scene for what seems like forever. A long-time member of the Kona Clump team, he’s competed on the international circuit for many years against some of the sport’s most respected names, including those from the freeriding Mecca of Canada.

Mr Roberts has kindly agreed to let me have a few images of the day so you can see what the children got up to and the amazing display that Grant put on in the playground. I'll include them in the next Blog.

A huge thank you to those of you who got sponorship and handed in the money you raised. If you haven't done this yet, please don't panic but bring it in to school as soon as you can.

Parent Consultations

We are really looking forward to meeting with you next week for our scheduled Parent Consultation Evenings next week.

The consultations will be held in the GYM but there will be signs to show you where to head.

Please be mindful that the appointments are 5 minutes long per subject (Maths and English). If you need longer with the teacher, you may need to arrange another day/time to meet so that any additional queries that you have can be addressed.

Finally, a text went out at the beginning of the week to let you know that I won't be available on the 27th February but have rescheduled those consultations for Monday 6th March instead.

Ancient Egypt Day

What a fantastic day! You looked amazing and the costumes that were worn were epic!

So many of you entered into the spirit of the day.
Just as an example, Sam made a delicious cake and Charlotte made scrummy biscuits. I was a very lucky lady and got to sample both - I love being Year Five's Progress Leader!

The activities we provided for the children were well received and there was a lot of 'making' going on in the Year Five Corridor! The children made a variety of masks, necklaces, scarabs, sarcophaguses (sp?) cartouches and a few played the Ancient Egyptian game, Senet.

In the afternoon, we had a Fashion Parade in the Hall. It was brilliant to all the costumes come together in one room - it felt like we were actually in Ancient Egypt! I warn you now there are A LOT of pictures coming up...

Honestly, some of the children were complete naturals when it came to strutting their stuff on the catwalk! Here are a few of the other costumes that caught our eye...

Fantastic!
Now, I have to say that I am extremely pleased that I didn't have to be a judge (I am such a good delegator!) but here are the winners from each class:

Our overall winners (we couldn't have just one!) were Arwyn and Alfie.

Well done to EVERYONE who took part!

Worth a Mention Children

It was great to see all the names appear on this week's Worth a Mention Board. Well done to everyone whose name is on there.

Congratulations one and all - I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of you!

World Book Day

This Thursday we will be celebrating World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book character. Have many of you decided what you are going as yet? Don't forget to enter the competitions as well and to have a reading book on you that day for 'Drop Everything and Read'.

Well, that's it for this week (I can hear the sighs of relief from here!). I hope you have enjoyed reading about what we have got up to this week. If you did, why not take a moment or two to write a comment? You know you would make my day if you did!

Have a good week everyone and we will look forward to meeting with some of you next week at the Parent Consultations.

Mrs Ray

(who is trying to work out what to come as on Thursday - anyone got any ideas for me?!)

  1. Some great dressing up I see. Alfie really enjoyed it and he was very happy to win overall best costume. (It was worth wearing make up for the day after all. Even if he had black eyes for a couple of days after.)!
