Another exhausting week!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

You certainly can't accuse Year 5 of resting on their laurels! After the exertions of the children (and staff I may add) at the school disco, the rest of the week seemed to get busier and busier!
Let's have a delve into another week in the life of Year Five...

School Disco

What a great evening! Miss Still, Miss Wood and Mr Barrett certainly know what a good fund raising idea is don't they? Thank you to all the children and staff who attended and strutted their stuff on the dance floor. £148 was raised for Forest Schools and will enable Miss Still and Mr Barrett to continue to buy resources for this very special area in our school.
Here is some photographic evidence of the night in question...

Rowan Cottage

Thank you to all those children who participated in Friday's Non Uniform Day in aid of our Year Group Charity, Rowan Cottage - the Day Centre for the Elderly that is run by the Dorchester division of 'Age UK'.

Mrs White took our fabulous School Council Representatives to Rowan Cottage a couple of weeks ago so they could have a look around, meet some of the residents and find out what we can help them purchase with the money we are in the process of raising.

I look forward to sharing the amount we raised through our Non Uniform Day next week.

Golden Time

I am sad to report that Golden Time has not been so golden for quite a few individuals over the last couple of weeks. I was shocked to see 25 children miss their Golden Time last week and at least 17 this week.

Year Five, this is not good enough!

You know the rules - Golden Time is something to be earned during the week and not an automatic 'right'.
I look forward to seeing a noticeable difference next week, starting with fewer children in Detention please...

Football Fun

This week, 5AD were Guinea Pigs.

OK, so not literally.
They were football playing guinea pigs.

OK, so they didn't look like that but they took part in a Mini Tournament at Thomas Hardye School on Wednesday. This was a trial but because of 5AD's excellent behaviour and enthusiasm, it looks as though it will become a regular event in the DASP sporting calendar.

Well done 5AD!

Summer Concerts

I was very lucky to attend one of the two annual DMS Summer Concerts organised and led by Mrs Hammonds along with Mr Goodwin this week. It was a fantastic evening and I was incredibly impressed with how well our talented Year Five musicians performed.

A great evening, enjoyed by all!

Fiver Challenge

For those of you who live with our intrepid entrepreneurs, you will be more than aware that the Fiver Challenge is well and truly under way.

Here are a few pictures of our groups working together on their projects:

Posters are appearing in every available space in the school, advertising the different company's products all ready for the 'Market Place' event to be held on Monday 29th June

The event will be held in the Gym and the doors will be open to parents and carers as well as Years 5 and 6 during the trading times of 11.25am to 12.20pm

After that, the rest of the school will be able to come and help support our hard working children by buying their products/services.

Should be fun!

So, that's it for another week. Apologies for such a mega blog but I know you love it really!

Have a good week everyone!

Mrs Ray

(who is looking forward to finally getting her car washed on the Market Place day!)

  1. I enjoyed performing in the school concert both nights and it was great to see pictures from the Wednesday night concert. I was disappointed there were no pictures from the Thursday night when I did my solo and played in a trio.
