Happy Holidays to you all!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

So, I was sat in my mum’s beautiful garden in Berkshire, reflecting on the last (manic) three days of the term and realised that we did it! We got through it - with bells on! Thank you for a terrific three days Year Five, you were amazing and you made me so proud.

In fact, thank you for an amazing year! We have had highs and the very occasional lows but on the whole, it has been an excellent year and that can only be down to the fact that you are an incredible group of children.

Now, at the risk of starting a ‘Gush-a-thon’, I will crack on with the Blog as there is rather a lot to share with you…

Celebration Assembly

What a fantastic (and a bit sweaty) morning that was! I am sorry that we ran 10 minutes over the hour but I think you will all agree that it was worth it! We had about 120 parents/grandparents/siblings in the audience and it really was a case of standing room only.

A huge well done and congratulations to every single child who earned stripes and other certificates, you have all worked hard to achieve them and it was brilliant to see you looking so proud when your names were called out!

What a lovely assembly – thank you so much to those who could come and if not, I hope the pictures (that were taken by the lovely Mrs Schnorr) will show you what we got up to!

Rock God Alert!

One of the many highlights of the assembly was the DMS Rock Band. Weren’t they brilliant? I don’t think I have ever actually danced in an assembly before! Thank you to the magnificent three Year Five Boys who took part and to Elliott and Nye for coming along and making the band complete.
As I said on the Monday, I went to The Larmer Tree Festival at the weekend and those boys would have wowed the audiences there. Maybe something to aspire to?

Sorry William!

We have never had so many Headteacher Stripe recipients as we did on that Monday – nearly 60 in total! Unfortunately, we ran out of stripes by one (ouch!) so we managed to produce a certificate, issue this public apology and have ordered LOTS of new stripes for next year. William will get the first one in the batch!

Art Competition Winners

Huge congratulations to our incredible Art Competition winners. I was so impressed with their entries and even more impressed that they received prizes as a result.
Well done – what a tremendous achievement!

Buddy Picnic

It may have been one of the hottest days of the year but that didn’t deter our intrepid Year Five and Year Eight Pupils who had planned and sourced the most sumptuous picnics known to man!

Every single centimetre of shade was taken up by a sea of light blue and there was enough to food to feed the school three times over!
We had a lovely time, all the children were incredibly well behaved and a real credit to their respective Year Groups.

Now, which picnic is going to win the healthiest picnic award?!

Goodbye Buddies

Talking of our Buddies, we had the chance to say a final ‘Goodbye’ to them on Wednesday after our Whole School Assembly. The Year Eights had made their Buddies beautiful puzzle boxes that intrigued and infuriated at the same time!

Thank you Year Eight for being such lovely Buddies – you have made our Year Five children’s transition to so much easier because of your care, attention and kindness. We wish you all the very best in your new school and hope to see you again sooner rather than later!

Whole School Assembly

A whole school assembly is a rare thing. We don’t do them very often but when we do they are brilliant! The only venue where we can fit in the entire school is the Sports Hall at Thomas Hardye School. On Wednesday morning, we all marched our way to the top of the road to celebrate the end of the year and even more successes and achievements.

Well done to the brave Mia for performing to such a large audience, you were brilliant!

Brooke

I just wanted to publicly thank you Brooke for being so kind and thoughtful this year! She has gone the extra mile many times and I am grateful for the times that she gently reminded me to do the things I said I would and had forgotten!
Thank You Brooke!

Mrs Schnorr

I also want to say a huge 'Thank You' to Mrs Schnorr who has been absolutely brilliant (as per usual) by helping me with every single Dorchester University session this academic year.
This very talented lady has been inspirational and an absolute asset to the children who completed our module 'Art about St Ives'. Thank You Mrs Schnorr, we couldn't have done it without you!

Ms Seymour

During our Whole School Assembly, we sadly said ‘Goodbye’ to Ms Seymour. To say that we will miss her will be the understatement of the year! Without Ms Seymour, the whole transition into Year Five would have been very different and because of her, all our lives are so much richer.

I personally would like to thank Ms Seymour for her passion and subsequent hard work within the whole transition process. Her knowledge of all the children who have come up from our Feeder First Schools is second to none and is the main reason why the children have settled in so well over the years.

I will miss every single thing about her.

Thank you Ms Seymour for everything. Here’s to the next exciting chapter in your life…

The Amazing Year Five Team

I would like to end the last Blog of the academic year by thanking the incredible Year Five Team for their hard work, commitment and all round loveliness! It’s been a challenging year for us at times but we have got through it and will be ready and raring to go in September once our batteries have been recharged and we have caught up on our sleep!

So, that’s it for this term! A huge thank you to everyone who has logged on to my weekly posts and who have loyally read through my ramblings!

I hope you all have an excellent Summer Holiday and that you don’t completely melt otherwise the school is going to be a very quiet place!

I’ll be back to Blogging (how ‘down with the kids’ does that sound?) in September and who knows - I might even start a Key Stage Two Blog? Watch this space!

Mrs Ray

(who started her Summer Holiday with a 6.45am exercise class. It won’t last!)
