Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!
I hope you all had a good half term and that you were all able to recharge your metaphorical batteries. The children have really got back into the swing of things and I am tentatively delighted (is that even possible?!) as the lining up situation was so much better this week. Long may it continue - hence the 'tentative' bit in the last sentence!
Anyway, enough of my ramblings, let's crack on with what the children have been up to...
Spooky or what?
Following an excellent day at Thomas Hardye on Monday, it was lovely to welcome the children back on the Tuesday which just happened to be Halloween!
Being the lovely and supportive Progress Leader that I am (I think I may have missed 'bossy' in that mini list), I managed to provide the teachers with a little something to enter into the 'spirit' of the day!
I think everyone looks rather fetching, don't you? I think it is something we should wear on a more regular basis. Watch this space...
Worth a Mention Children
Massive congratulations to this week's Worth a mention Children.
I love this board as it never ceases to delight and impress me. Well done to this week's chosen children - what a fabulous achievement!
Golden Time
This week I had 28 children missing Golden Time. It is always tricky to get back into 'school mode' after a break (trust me, I really know how that one works) so I am hoping for an improvement next week.
The primary 'issues' are getting the reads in and the diary not being signed from the previous week (not half term though).
Fingers crossed that we all get back on the track for next week

Dorchester University - The Art of St Ives
Mrs Schnorr and I have been loving this module and we were delighted to welcome our new group on Wednesday.
As part of the Module, we go to Dorset County Hospital to look at the art which is to view open for the public. Alex Mudin, the Hospital's Art Manager, took the children on a tour of the major art works that are housed in the hospital this week and it was brilliant.
Can't wait until next week where we will start to have a go at recreating the work of some of the artists that we saw!
Response Partners
Peer Assessment is a really powerful learning tool so 5MW gave it a go this week by looking at each other's Buddens Recount.
It was so uplifting to see the children helping each other - thank you for making it such a positive experience 5MW.
The Great DMS Bake Off
I can't wait to see the fabulous designs that you come have come up with! I'll be there on Monday with my trusty camera, ready to record the clever designs and to report who the winners were.
Good luck everyone!
Children in Need
It's that time of year again!
Dorchester Middle School will be supporting this incredible charity again this year. Details of how we can support on the actual day will be heading your way soon but in the meantime, please remember that the School Shop is selling a variety of merchandise that will go towards our fundraising day.
Personally, I will purchasing a rather fetching pair of Pudsey Ears...
Well, that's it for another week!
I hope you all have a good few days and I will look forward to seeing you back here next week for more news and updates on the wonderful world of Year Five.
Mrs Ray
(who is about to attempt to 'persuade' her now 10 year old to read to her following her birthday weekend. Wish me luck...!)
