The Home Stretch!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Well done for a super week Year Five - we are showing absolutely no signs of slowing down whatsoever which is a testament to your stamina and positive work ethic!

As always, lots to share with you so are you ready?
Let's rock (you'll see the relevance of that comment later)!

Speed Sharing

We love a bit of Speed Sharing in Year Five don't we? Actually, what I think it really is, is our love of showing off and quite rightly so!

Here are a few of the children I was able to catch whilst they were sharing their favourite pieces of writing from this term with Miss Pluck and Miss Dearden.

Don't worry if you haven't had the chance to show a member of our Senior Leadership Team your best writing from this term, you still have next week.
I have asked nicely, promise!

Harold's Challenge

Remember Harold the Giraffe - the one from the Life Education Van with the dreadful jokes? Well, he made a flying visit to DMS on Wednesday as part of his challenge to visit as many as schools as possible in a week.

He chose a great day as it was our 'Wear Green for the NSPCC' Day.

As we took part, we were awarded with a certificate and Miss Clements, who is charge of PSHCEE, couldn't wait to share it!

Well done Harold on visiting so many schools - very impressive.

If you want to see the other places Harold visited then do have a look on the  Twitter feed. You can find on:

Let's Rock!

As you know, we are always looking for new and exciting ways to teach the children. This week my Maths Group were guinea pigs (not literally) and had a go at becoming Times Table Rock Stars!

They had three minutes to answer as many times table questions are they could to the tune of 'Eye of the Tiger' to begin with and then we rocked out to 'The Summer of 69'.

Thank you Mr Haigh for such a terrific idea - it was great fun!

Summer Concert

On a very pleasant Wednesday indeed, Mrs Hammonds hosted a super Summer Concert for the talented musicians in our school to show case their talent.
It was just brilliant to see a few brave Year Fives in the line up and I am very proud to report that they were absolutely fantastic!

Well done Lily, Esther, Georgia, Joe and Helen - what a lovely evening!

Celebration Assembly

Just a last reminder that we are holding the last Celebration Assembly of the year this Monday at 9.30am in the Drama Hall. If you could remember to sign in when you get to Reception that would be great.
Teas and coffees will be served from 9.15am.
We look forward to seeing you!

Buddy Picnic

Many apologies if your shopping list doubled this weekend in preparation for Monday's Buddy Picnic!
As mentioned in last week's Blog, if you have booked and paid for a Local Food Links lunch then your child will still receive it but it will be picnic-friendly.
Our Buddy Picnic will be held during Lesson 3.

Worth a Mention Children

A huge congratulations to all of this week's Worth a Mention Children. You really have been such a lovely year group and we will miss you so much.
The Year Six teachers are extremely lucky aren't they?!

Golden Time

Well done to all of the children who received their Golden Time this week. Hoorah!
That was the last 'official' Golden Time of the year!
You have all worked so hard to receive your Golden Time over the year and although there has been the odd blip along the way, you have done yourselves proud.

Whizz Kids

There was a lot of noise coming from the Gym on Thursday and Friday - the sound of children having far too much fun!

On closer inspection, the Physical Disability team were taking part in an event involving the charity Whizz Kids. Children from Prince of Wales also joined in the fun.

If you took part, why don't you let us know a bit more about what you were doing by putting something in the Comments section of the Blog?

Well, that's it for another week.
I will write one more Blog next week so that you can see what we got up to in the last three days of term.

Have a good week everyone!
