Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!
Activities Week. What more can I say? Probably one of the most bonkers weeks of our school year (and we have lots of those don't we?!) but we hope that the children had lots of fun going to different places and learning lots of new things.
I warn you now, there are A LOT of photographs ahead of you! Make sure you are sitting comfortably with a decent amount of time to make sure you totally absorb all the fantastic things we got up to this week.
Let's do this in chronological order...
Play in a Day
Ah-ha me hearties!
Day One saw Mark from Splats guide Year Five through the wonderful world of Treasure Island culminating in a fabulous performance at the end of the day.
Whilst the different classes were rehearsing with Mark, the rest of the year group were busy making scenery and props for the final performance at the end of the day.
Brownsea Island
What a glorious day! I can't believe how lucky we were with the weather!
Our day mainly consisted of sailing across Poole Harbour, lots of walking (with various degrees of enthusiasm!), looking for squirrels, dodging peacocks, persistent chickens, creating works of art in pottery and natural objects, a scavenger hunt and following the Smuggler's Trail to find the treasure. Phew!
This is how we all felt at the end of the day! |
Matisse Morning and Rounders Tournament
I was so impressed with how our children discovered their 'inner Matisse' on Wednesday morning.
The work they produced, as you can see by the pictures, was fantastic!
After such a successful morning, we made our way to the field to take part in our Year Five Rounders Tournament.
I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the game of Boccia that was going on at the same time. It's quite addictive isn't it?
Blimey - you are a competitive lot aren't you?
Congratulations to 5AD who came first and last!
Dorset County Museum
Thursday saw Year Five visit the Dorset County Museum. As part of their bid to secure funding to expand the Museum, we were invited to come and look around the museum and come up with ideas that could be incorporated into the new building.
The children were put into groups and given different roles that linked with the redevelopment of the museum.
The museum was really impressed with all the children's excellent ideas. We really did have a fabulous time.
When we weren't at the Museum, the children were creating their own 'Shoe Box Gallery'. The ideas they had were very imaginative indeed.
The Final Day
We managed to get to the last day relatively unscathed!
To continue with out theme of 'The Arts', each class had a go at the work of different artists in the morning. Again, the results were fantastic!
In the afternoon, Miss Enever hosted 'The Great Year Five Quiz' which was excellent fun! Well done to the winning teams, your photographs will be on the Blog after half term!
Finally, we ended the week with a Summer Art Exhibition where parents/carers were invited to the Gazebo area where we had set up an exhibition showing all the works of art that the children had created over the week.
A HUGE 'Thank You' to everyone who help and supported our Activities Week this year. None of it would have been possible without so many people.
If you gave up your time to help us in and out of school, it was so appreciated. As with all of these types of activities, it would not have been possible without you.
I hope you all have an excellent half term and that you get the opportunity to recharge those batteries.
Year Five - it would be brilliant if you could write comments to tell us about YOUR experiences of Activities Week.
What was your favourite activity?
What did you learn this week?
Did you achieve something that you thought you never could do?
There will be Citizenship Credits for those who take up the challenge!
Have a good week Year Five and I will look forward to seeing you back in school on Monday 6th June for more fun, games and (most importantly) learning!
