Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!
So, there I was, thinking about what I was going to write this week and then I reflected on all the comings and goings in Year Five over the last few days and realised that a mega blog was ahead of me.
OK everyone, strap yourselves in and here we go...
Year Five Football Team
Words from Mr Dailey:
On Monday, our Year 5 girl footballers took on both St
Osmund's and Puddletown in the area 5 a side tournament.
The girls didn't start off well by loosing their
opening game against Puddletown. The girls then faced St Osmund's
immediately afterwards and managed to capture a draw. At the half way point in
the tournament DMS yr 5's were 3rd, but this was only half way...
Puddletown and St Osmund's were gutted with their opening games
against us so they both fought for victory over the mighty DMS
Outstanding performances from all the players but Laura
C was DMS's player of the tournament.
The girls snatched games from DMS and Puddletown in the second
half of the tournament and secured an epic win! The girls were the champions!
From being in last place to dominating everything that moved they are now the
AREA 5 a side Champions! Congratulations to them!
Well done girls - what a fantastic achievement!
Streetwise
5CW, 5AD, 5ER and 5PC went off to Streetwise this week as part of our work in PSHCEE.
Not only did we have an enjoyable time, we also learnt a lot about how to keep ourselves safe in everyday situations.
5AD went on Wednesday and here are a few pictures of their visit courtesy of Mrs Lister:
5ER went on Thursday.
Bottle Top Collection
As reported last week, Year Five's contribution to the Bottle Top collecting has been phenomenal! So far, we have collected two full bin bags worth of bottle tops.
Osin and Max had the job of filling the second big bag. Please believe me when I tell you that it was extremely heavy and we had to drag it all the way to Science Lab 2!
'ello, 'ello, 'ello!
I am delighted to introduce (from left to right) PC Numerator, PC Dividing Line and PC Denominator.
They are Mrs Ray and Miss Enever's Maths Group's Fraction Police, making sure that law and order is kept when learning about those tricky fractions.
Worth a Mention Children
Huge congratulations to this week's Worth a Mention children.
Well done everyone, we are so proud of you for achieving the recognition you deserve.
Golden Time
Last week, 10 Year 5 children missed Golden Time (one for Detention) and this week it was 10 again but I am delighted that no one was in Detention this time.
Homework seems to be the main reason for Golden Time being missed this week - please remember that we are more than happy to help you in school, all you have to do is ask!
British Museum April 2016
We were delighted to send home the letters on Friday to confirm our trip to the British Museum on Thursday 14th April.
How exciting!
We are going as part of our Ancient Egypt Topic which starts in the next couple of weeks.
To help reduce the cost of this trip, we will be holding a variety of fund raising events between now and half term. We have already made a head start with the money we raised through selling the Little People Christmas Decorations.
So, this is what we have planned for you:
Tuesday 2nd February
Mr Duffy and Miss Enever will be selling Hot Chocolates and other chocolate-orientated goodies at break time in Room 5.
Thursday 4th February
Mrs White and Mrs Cook will be organising a Cake Sale in the Year Five Corridor at break time.
Tuesday 9th February
Mrs Daniel and Mrs Ray will be selling Hot Chocolate and Cookies in the Drama Hall at break time.
Thursday 11th February
We will we holding a Non Uniform Day on the last day before half term. Always a favourite with the children!
Busy, busy, busy!
So, that's it for another week.
I hope you all have a good week and please don't forget to comment on the Blog - there are Citizenship Credits in it for you if you do!
