Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Well, we have had a very busy week - just for a change! I'm not totally convinced that we have actually had a half term break, are you?

Anyway, lots of lovely things to share with you so on with the show...

Activities Week

Thank you to those children who have written and returned their feedback forms from our recent Activities Week. It would be great to have as many parent responses as possible as well so please don't forget to return those completed forms to the office.

As promised last week, I have a few photos from mine and Mrs Lister's cameras to share with you. Mrs Lister took loads of photographs but unfortunately they didn't all download so you may be treated to a few more next week!

Worth a Mention Children

Well done to those who are on this week's 'Worth a Mention Children' board.  

Dan, Marcus, Dylan, Natasha, Orren, Maddie, Taylor, Zoe, George and Josh - we salute you!

Fiver Challenge

This week, the ten groups who are taking part in the Fiver Challenge, met with Katherine Sawyer from Youth Enterprise to start putting their plans into action.

We were so impressed with the children's enthusiasm and are very excited to see how these projects progress over the next few weeks.

Did you know?

In our English lessons we have been reading the excellent 'Wreck of the Zanzibar' by Michael Morpurgo.

5AD have been researching and presenting information on Leatherback Turtles. They are fascinating creatures and the work that the children produced was very impressive indeed.

Well done 5AD, what a treat!

Open Morning

This Saturday, we threw open the doors of the school and welcomed the children and parents of the current Year Four who will be joining our school in September.

It was a super morning and such a joy to meet such a lovely group of people.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the Year Five children who were excellent guides and ambassadors for our school. The parents were really impressed with how helpful and articulate (look that word up!) you all were.

I would also like to thank the members of staff who kindly gave up a precious Saturday morning to meet our new recruits.

Forget Roland Garros or Wimbledon! 

We had the top Yr 5 and Yr 6 players from the area all competing to secure the title of "Best in Dorchester"

There was some impressive plays with smashes/cross court/backhand winners and many more shots that clinched points for pupils!

After all the games had been played in singles and doubles the results showed that St Osmunds just took the title but with DMS closely on their heels!

The team played extremely well in hot conditions and deserve every pat on the back for coming runners up

Advance Notice

The last Celebration Assembly of the school year will be held on Monday 13th July, 9.30am - 10.30am in the Drama Hall. Each class will be reviewing their highlights of the year, as well as being presented with their well deserved certificates.

Road Safety Week

Next week is Road Safety Week and on Friday 11th June, Jon Sweet from Dorset Fire and Rescue will be visiting our children. He will work with every class throughout the day. I will look forward to reporting back to you about this in my next post.
