Ho! Ho! Ho!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

It's been a strange old week this week. Having been out of school for a couple days on a training course, I have felt a bit out of the loop but now that I am back, there will be no stopping me! You have been warned...
A bit of an epic this week with a strange running order - good luck everyone!

Christmas Jumpers

Loads of us have got them and we only get to wear them once a year so on the last day of term we will be participating in a Christmas Jumper Day - hoorah!
All we ask that, in exchange for wearing your Christmas jumper, you bring in £1 that will be donated to The Children's Society - the same charity that we collected for at the Carol Service on Tuesday.

Please note that this is not a Non Uniform Day, jumpers only!

I warn you now - the Year Five Team really get into it!

Please don't worry if you don't have a Christmas jumper, you can decorate your school sweatshirt with tinsel or even create your own jumper/top!

Last Day of Term

I can't believe that we are nearly at end of the first term - where do that go?
Our Celebration Assembly will take up the first part of the morning, Lessons 3 and 4 will be off timetable (Movie Magic will hit the Year Five Corridor) and then we will Homebase after lunch.
It sounds like a relaxing day but that couldn't be further from the truth!

Little People Christmas Decorations

You only have five days to purchase our gorgeous Christmas Decorations! We do have a few left so hurry while stocks last! They are a bargain at £1.50 each - don't miss out on this fabulous opportunity!

Award winning Oliver

There was a lot of hilarity coming from 5AD on Monday morning. Now, this is not an unusual thing at the best of times but I was drawn into the classroom (yes, I know, I am a very nosy person).

Apparently, there is award in 5AD if your book is graced with Oscar's bottom! Oliver is the recent recipient of this award - that's because two of the pages in his English book are covered in paw prints!

At this point I ought to reassure you that Oscar is one of Mrs Daniels' cats.
Brilliant!

Christmas Carol Service

What a glorious evening that was! I was the proudest Head of Year in the universe - watching you all sing your hearts out was a joy to behold and yes, there may have been a few tears in my eyes!

The singing was beautiful - Mrs Hammonds did a cracking job with you all, those rehearsals really paid off didn't they?

I was also incredibly impressed with the number of Year Five children who were playing in the orchestra. Not all of them are represented in the picture above - these are the children I managed to nab before they went home.

Bravo Year Five!

Don't forget that there is a Christmas Concert on Wednesday 6pm - 7pm in the Drama Hall.

What a treat!

Worth a Mention Children

I am so sorry but I don't have a full board to show you this week.
As soon as the board has been completed, I will post the picture and congratulate those superstars properly!
I would like to warn you now that Mrs Daniel has drawn a couple of pictures on the board but the good news is that you can vaguely make out what they are. I think.

Conscience Alley

We continue to read 'The Wreck of the Zanzibar' by Michael Morpurgo and loving it!
This week, in 5MW, we asked William to play the role of Billy who had to decide if he would stay on the island of Bryher or leave to explore the world. One side of the corridor were trying to persuade him to stay and the other half were trying to persuade him to go.

He did a brilliant job and found it really hard to make a decision. However, a decision was made but I can't possibly tell you what is was - you'll have to read the book!

Celebration Assembly

Although I mentioned this earlier on, just a quick reminder of our assembly on Friday.
We are aiming to start at 9.15am and should be finished just after 10am. Please be in school as near to 9am as possible and then we will seat you as soon as the Hall is ready.
We will then invite you back to the classrooms so the children can show you a piece of work from this term that they are proud of.

I am so excited about the incredible number of stripes that are going to be awarded on Friday - get your sewing kits at the ready!

Well, that's it for another week. There will be one more Blog this year and then this Blogger will have a couple of weeks off so that she can wrap the twenty billion presents that she is yet to purchase and eat her body weight in chocolate!

Have a good week every one and I look forward to seeing some of you on Friday!

Where are the brakes?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

I think I have just manged to catch my breath from yet another busy week! So much going on so if I have missed out anything, I can only apologize.
Right, let's crack on!

Purple Friday

A huge thank you to everyone who supported Purple Friday. As a school, we raised an impressive £315.48. Everyone looked magnificent in their purple substitutes and the fact that it was all for such a good cause made it even more wonderful.
Thank you!

Countryside Calendar

Our beautiful Countryside Calendar is on sale with lots of contributions from our Year Five children.

For the bargain price of £5 not only will you be the proud owner of a rather gorgeous calendar but all profits will go towards buying the children new equipment for the playground.
Consider your Christmas shopping done!

Celebration Assembly

Hopefully you received the text to say that our next Celebration Assembly will be held on Friday 15th December at 9.15am. Please be in school for 9am to sign in and we will get you seated as soon as we can.
The Assembly will be held in the Drama Hall lasting for (hopefully) just under an hour - be prepared for Christmas treats and celebrations.
After the assembly, we will be giving you the opportunity to come back to your child's classroom  so that they can show you some of their work, especially any pieces that they are particularly proud of.
We hope to see you then!

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to this week's worthy Worth a Mention Children (did you see what I did there?!) - what a fantastic range of reasons - well done one and all!

Glamorous Granny

Now, some of you (or may not) be aware that Mrs Daniel has become a Grandmother! I can hear the gasps of disbelief from here!

Little Lucas arrived (bang on schedule!) at the beginning of the month and is rather gorgeous isn't he? Congratulations Mrs Daniel - does the poor child know what he has let himself in for?!

Little People Christmas Decorations

Thank you to those of you who bought our rather fabulous Christmas Decorations on Friday. We have already raised £40 towards the cost of our British Museum trip in March.
They will be on sale every break time until they are sold and are £1.50 each.

Dorchester University

Our second module is nearly at an end and we had a great time at Dorset County Museum on Wednesday looking at the Alfred Wallis paintings and admiring the other artifacts on display.

A massive THANK YOU for Mrs Schnorr who came with us again and who has been an integral part of this Dorchester University Module.
She is a complete and utter star!

Whilst we were looking round, I noticed that there is a really good Anglo-Saxon and Viking area upstairs.

As we are learning about this area of history, I thought I would share this with you as it may well be worth a look?

I love the Museum, it's such a fantastic place to visit.

Carol Service

This Tuesday sees the arrival of our much anticipated Carol Service where Year Five are the stars! I personally cannot wait.
The Carol Service is at St Mary's Church, Edward Road and starts at 7pm.
See you then!

Well, that's it for another week! I look forward to seeing you at the Carol Service on Tuesday where I am on 'shooshing' duties - I have been practising my 'glare' all weekend much to the delight of my family!

Have a good week everyone!

Mrs Ray

(who is starting to panic about her severe lack of organisation for Christmas...! So, what did she do about it? Go for a run with her chums Miss Clements and Mrs Jarvis-Woodbridge!)
