Nice to meet you, to meet you nice!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

The title of this post really shows my age doesn't it but it really was lovely to meet with so many of you this week. I am also delighted that people have been brave enough to comment on my posts so a HUGE 'Thank You' to those who have done so. I also want to thank you for reading this blog - the page view numbers have increased dramatically which makes me a very happy Blogger indeed.

Anyway, as usual, I have lots to report so let's get going!

Celebration Assembly

Last reminder about the assembly on Monday.
Labels have been put in diaries, certificates printed and we're ready and raring to go!
We are delighted with the huge number of children who will be receiving certificates on Monday but if you didn't get one this time, don't despair, we will carry on collecting the credits until the end of the term in December - your time will come!

Super Schools

What a fantastic afternoon!
According to sources, the children were very excited to meet a real life athlete and approached the whole with gusto and enthusiasm!

Don't forget that the sponsorship money is due in now!
Please make sure that your hard earned money is handed in before half term.

Helping Hands

So, how's it all going? Have your children morphed into domestic God and Goddesses yet?
If not, it's time to get a move on as we would love your donations by the end of next week!
Happy Helping!

Parent Consultations

Thank you to everyone who came to our Parent Consultations this week. It was such a valuable evening and we really enjoyed meeting with you.

If you couldn't attend either evening, it is worth getting in touch with your child's Homebase Tutor to arrange an alternative appointment.

Golden Time

This week only 6 children missed their Golden Time and not one Year Five child had been in Detention - fantastic!

A HUGE congratulations to 5PC who all received their Golden Time this week - brilliant!

I must mention 5KD who also got their Golden Time but who have turned everything around and have had an excellent week as a result!

Well done 5KD - I haven't seen Mr Duffy with such a huge smile on his face for weeks!

Worth a Mention Children

This week's Worth a Mention children are:
Evan, Carly, Amy C, Davine, Noah, Jack, Marcus, Laila, Beth L and Tyler.

As always, we salute and congratulate you for such a fabulous achievement!

Year Five Tech

Thank you for all the donations that you have kindly sent into school to enable the Technology Department to keep running their fabulous projects.

Here are a few of the children in action:

So, that's it for another week. I will look forward to seeing some of you at Monday's Celebration Assembly. You won't be able to miss me, I'll be the swan at the front of the Hall - calm on the outside and paddling like mad underneath!

Thank you again for your interest in our Blog, it's so good to have you on board!

Have a good week everyone and don't forget that the children break up on Thursday next week!

Mrs Ray

(who is really looking forward to another fun-packed week!)

Are you sitting comfortably?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Another eventful week and another jam packed blog for you to read! So, without further a do, on with the show!

Helping Hands Appeal

Refugee children are frightened, homeless and many have witnessed unspeakable horrors. We can help them. The Save the Children teams are working across Europe and in the countries they are fleeing to provide aid and support.
As a year group, we can help them reach more refugee children.

Hopefully, your children should have brought home a letter last week explaining how we can help make a difference by running our 'Helping Hands' campaign.

Please encourage your children to earn money for this excellent charity by paying them to do jobs around the home that they will in turn, donate to the charity.

If you didn't receive a letter then please let us know and we will issue a replacement.

I can't wait to see what you have done to earn your money!

Golden Time

I am delighted to announce that not one member of 5ER missed their Golden Time this week! Yeah!

However, I am sad to report that a whole class missed their Golden Time - you know who you are! You also know what you need to do to 'get it right'!

There were eight other 'non attenders' who were there for various reasons.

Don't forget what you need to do to get your Golden Time Year Five...!

Parent Consultations

As you will, hopefully, know, we are holding two Parent Consultation Sessions next week:

Monday 12th October 4pm - 6pm
Wednesday 14th October 5pm - 7pm

Letters were distributed on Tuesday and most of the appointment slots have now been filled. However, if you would still like to meet with your child's Homebase Tutor then please do contact them as they may have a few available times or you can arrange to see them on an alternative day.

We look forward to meeting with you!

Worth a Mention Children

Congratulations to this week's Worth a Mention children who are: Eden, Lewis, Jemima, Angus, Mishi, Brandon, Esther, Kane, Sophia and Max.
Well done, what a fantastic achievement!

Celebration Assembly

Just a quick reminder that our first Celebration Assembly of the year will be held on Monday 19th October 2015.
It will be held in the Drama Hall and we ask parents who can attend to arrive for 1pm and sign in on your arrival.
The assembly should start around 1.10pm and should finish at approximately 1.35pm.
If your child will be receiving a certificate then there will be a label in their Home/School Diary informing you a few days before.
We hope you can make it!

Super Schools

This is Jazmine Sawyers and she was a silver medalist in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

On Wednesday, Year Five will be meeting her when she comes into school to support us when we are completing our Super School Challenge.

Team Superschools (TSS), a fun, inspirational and exciting way of raising funds for primary schools using the power of sport.
TSS sees pupils rub shoulders with their Olympic and Paralympic heroes.
We promote healthy lifestyles and raise aspirations amongst young children.
The children will be put through their paces (quite literally) on Wednesday 13th October. Please do encourage your child to get as much sponsorship as they can - the more they raise the more the Sports Department of the school will benefit.
Good luck Year Five!
Forest Schools
It's official, the children in Year Five LOVE Forest Schools. We all had a 'taster session' at the beginning of the term and as a result,  the numbers attending the two Forest Schools clubs have significantly risen!
These photographs will show you how much the children love it!

I can't wait to see some of you at the Forest Schools Disco next Friday - I warn you now, Mr Barratt can throw some mean shapes on that dance floor!
...and finally!
Miss Still is a brilliant TA isn't she? She really puts her heart, soul and crown into what she does...

Sorry Miss Still but we couldn't resist it!!

So, that's it for another week. Still no comments on the Blog which makes my 'sad face' even sadder! There must be someone out there who could write a comment?! Please?
Have a good week everyone!
Mrs Ray
(who will be looking over her shoulder on Monday morning in case Miss Still tries to get her own back!)

Always time for something!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Another cracking week under our belts - 5KD, 5AD and 5PC had a glorious trip to Buddens on Monday and the follow up work has well and truly started. The children have already written cracking recounts of our various trips and we are now in the process of creating interesting maps of the route we took around Buddens.

Anyway, let's have a look at what has been going on in Year Five this week...

Story Time

It doesn't matter how hold you are, we all love being told a story. Year Five is no exception and thoroughly enjoyed having Jill Murphy's 'On the Way Home' read to them.

"Why are the English teachers reading this particular story?" I hear you cry! Well, there is a perfectly logical explanation. Using this story as a starting point, the children are going to write a story for younger children cataloging a series of excuses as to why homework has not been handed in!

The fabulous thing is that we are writing for a real audience - the Year One children at Damers First School and the Foundation and Year One children at Prince of Wales First School. We will be going to the First Schools to read our stories to the children in person in a few weeks time.

We better crack on with it then!

Golden Time

This week 16, yes, 16 children missed their Golden Time this week.

The addition of homework has thrown in a bit of a spanner in the works when it comes to a few children getting their Golden Time.
We understand how busy life is, we really do, which is why we are more than happy to help the children complete their homework.

There are three options available:
1. Speak to the teacher who has set the homework and ask them to help.
2. Study Group that is held in ICT 3 every lunchtime. Make sure that you eat your lunch before you go. The session starts at 12.40pm until 1.00pm.
3. Homework Club with Mrs Foot and Mrs Klein in ICT 1 and 2. You can eat your lunch with them before you start doing your homework and they are happy to help you if you are stuck.

Let's try and make sure that EVERYONE gets their Golden Time this week...

Buddens Time

As promised in last week's Blog, I have got a few more photographs of the trips to Buddens.

These terrific photographs were taken by Miss Enever on Monday when she was with 5PC:

You look at though you had a great time 5PC!

Mrs Lister also accompanied Year Five on both days and here is a selection of the fabulous photographs she took:

Beautiful!

Tech Time

In Year Five, the children are given incredible opportunities to make an interesting range of things in their weekly tech lessons.

Unfortunately, the resources and materials that the children use do cost money. A letter came home this week asking for a £5 contribution to materials, we would be so grateful if you respond to this request so that the Technology Department can continue to run these fabulous projects for the children.

Sunny Time

I love the sun and there is nothing more heartwarming that feeling that warmth in my classroom. However, this pesky sun also prevents a couple of children being able to see what they are doing because they are squinting!

What a dilemma! Do I shut the blinds and inadvertently block out the sun or do I allow the children to squint whenever the sun makes an appearance?

Resolution?

Provide them with sunglasses so that everyone is a winner!
Result!

Writing Time

New to Year Five this year has been the introduction of 'Wonderful Writing' displays.

The work that goes on these boards needs to be the children's 'best' work and something they are proud of.

Mrs Daniel's class kicked it all of with this wonderful display of Cinquain poetry.

Well done 5AD - what a joy to behold in the Year Five corridor!

Well, that's it for another week.
There weren't any comments on last week's blog (I am currently sporting my 'sad' face) so come on, be brave and make an ageing blogger very happy!

Have a good week everyone!

Into the woods...

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Well, what a busy week that was!
We finally, yes finally, got the hang of lining up although there is still room for improvement!

Before I crack on with this week's Blog I would just like to thank Miss Enever, who is the official photographer for Year Five, for taking all the fabulous photographs that are in this week's post.

Worth A Mention Children

A huge congratulations to this week's Worth A Mention children who are: Josh, Keeley, Freya, Cameron, Esther, Kane, Emma and Oisin.
Well done on such a terrific achievement.

French Lessons

It's always interesting to see what our children get up to in their lessons and this was snapped during a French lesson. What on earth is going on here?!

Cobweb Cafe Homework

Oh my goodness! Year Five, you have certainly set the bar extremely high when it comes to a creative homework.
I was so impressed with your original ideas and excellent presentation so here a few pictures to celebrate (and show off) your hard work!

Aren't they great?!

Musical Madness

Back to the topic of what our children get up to when we are not teaching them...
Music lessons with Mrs Hammonds look like far too much fun.
Again, please could someone explain what is going on in these pictures?

I'm intrigued!

Buddens Trip - Part One

We all breathed a huge collective sigh of relief when the sun came out and the rain decided to stay away on Friday!
We had a fantastic trip to Buddens (near Wareham) and learnt so much from our time there.

Here is a selection of the photographs that Miss Enever took of 5ER (she took 115 in total!!), I will endeavour to post pictures of the other classes in next week's Blog.

A huge thank you to all the parents who came with us, you were all brilliant!

Well, that's it for another week. Have a good weekend everyone and I will look forward to sharing the continuing adventures of Year Five with you!

Don't forget to comment on the Blog - your feedback is lovely to receive and reassures me that people are reading my posts!
Go on - be brave!

Mrs Ray

(who didn't find any squirrels at Buddens to smuggle home, much to Mr Ray's relief!)
