Back to reality?!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Is there such a thing as 'normal' week in Year Five? Er, no! We've been really busy with our learning haven't we? I have a sneaky that we have had a lot of fun in the process, am I right Year Five?

Lots to report on so on with the show...

Student Voice Representatives

These fine children have been voted to be the Year Five Student Voice representatives by the children in their classes. The whole process is extremely democratic and I am delighted that we have such super children representing Year Five.

Worth a Mention Children

This week's Worth a Mention children are:

Kennan, Sophia, Alex, Sophia, Euan, Sophie, Nye, Layla, Luke and Kate.

Well done on being recognised for your hard work and all round loveliness. We are very proud of you.

Sorting some shapes...

We love our Maths lessons don't we? On Friday, Mrs Ray amd Miss Enever's Maths Group started to look at 3D shapes and then sorted them into groups.

I think the children did a fantastic job of working out where the shapes go in this Caroll Diagram.

What a load of old rot!

We continue with our Ecology topic in Science and this week, 5ER raided the Pond area and brought some of the logs into the classroom so we could see how much they have rotted and what has caused this decay.

We also brought in a variety of leaves to see what happens to them as they decay. The children had to choose leaves that showed the whole decay process from newly fallen to virtually skeletal.

Pete the Penguin

 Pete is our resident Emperor Penguin and decided to visit 5ER to see how they were getting on with their Non Chronological Reports. 

Whilst he was in Room 4, he took a bit of a shine to Seren.

Honestly, I can't take that penguin anywhere can I?

Be prepared for Pete coming to a classroom near you very soon indeed!

Golden Time

I am sad to report that 13 children missed their Golden Time this week. Even sadder than that, two of the children missed their Golden Time becuase they had been in Detention.

However, well done to all of those of you who earned their Golden Time this week. I believe you had a bit of a treat in the playground as you witnessed Mrs Daniel learning how to use a Diabolo?

Brilliant! Is there no end to this lady's talents?!

Whizz, bang, wallop!

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

It was great to have a full week with the children this week and we certainly started it and finished it on a high!

Let's see what the children have been up to this week...

Science Day

We had a fabulous day on Monday didn't we Year Five? You made Marble Runs, constructed towers to hold OXO cubes, looked closely at snails, had fun with kitchen science, handled, observed and drew special natural objects and, took part in an incredible Chemistry Show.

The winners of this challenge were 5CW's Marble Devils who managed to send their marble down their run in an impressive 17.81 seconds! Well done!

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulation to this week's Worth a Mention children who are:

Well done, this is something to be really proud of!

Children in Need

This Friday was, as you all know, Children in Need Day. We were so impressed with the effort that was made by the children and for the donations that were made. I will share the total with you on the next blog.

Armistice Day

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The Two Minute Silence is observed on Armistice Day, the day which marks the end of the First World War.

As a school, we went outside and marked the Two Minute Silence. Year Five's behaviour was, on the whole, very impressive and they showed what respectful children they are.

Golden Time

This week, 11 children missed their Golden Time.

A variety of reasons as usual however, yet again, not one Year Five child missed their Golden Time because they were in Detention, which is terrific.

Let's see if we can get that number down next week Year Five! Do you think we can do that?

Hello and welcome back to the Year Five Blog!

Well, we may have only been back for four days but what a jam packed four days they have been!

Super Schools medalists

A huge thank you to all of the children for taking part in this excellent challenge and for those of you who worked really hard to get sponsorship. I will let you know how much money has been raised for the PE Department when the final total has been announced.

Worth a Mention children

Huge congratulations to this week's Worth a Mention children who are:

Sam, Laura, Stanley, Frankie, Minna, Archie, Primrose, Harvey, Holly and Fynn.

Simply brilliant.

Science Day

On Monday, the Year Five children will be off timetable as we will be having our annual Science Day. The children will have a fabulous day as they will looking at different aspects of Science. 

Not only will we welcoming back the excellent 'Science Show' into school but the Year Five teachers will also be running a variety of workshops that will enable the children to have a lot of fun by conducting a variety of experiments.

I will report back to you next week. 

Helping Hands - the final push

A HUGE thank you to all of you have worked hard and earned money for Save the Children's Syrian Refugee campaign.

So far we have raised an impressive £200 but we could do so much more than this! It's not too late to hand in your money - together we can really make a real difference.

Golden Time 

Eleven Year Five children missed their Golden Time this week. Again, not one single child missed their Golden Time because they had a detention which is fantastic!

This week's main offender is the Home/School diaries not being signed in the right place and Reading Record entries not completed by an adult.

The children had to create a new plant that dispersed seeds by: wind, animal, water or explosion.

Aren't they fantastic?
